The 2019 Ford EcoSport is going to be the second edition of this subcompact crossover for the US market. We won’t see many changes on the new model. Probably few new colors can refresh the exterior, while interior and specs remains the same. The Ford EcoSport compared to Escape is smaller. This subcompact crossover exists from 2003. However, in 2018 it appeared for the first time in the US. Indian, European, Japanese, and Brazilian markets were main territories where sales of this SUV were high. However, the growth of the subcompact segment leads crossover to the major stage. The 2019 Ford EcoSport is taking position just under Escape. Its main competitors are Chevy Trax and Honda HR-V.
2019 Ford EcoSport Engine Specs
The 2019 Ford EcoSport will use the same engines as its predecessor. After success and praise it received, the main unit will again be a 1.0-liter three-cylinder drivetrain. Thanks to a turbocharger, it is capable to deliver 125 hp and 125 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, and Ford EcoSport will be able to return 28 mpg combined.
An alternative comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain. This unit adds around 40 hp more, as well as extra 25lb-ft of torque. As the abovementioned engine, this four-pot unit is using a six-pace automatic gearbox as the power router.
Diesel
Only Indian and Chinese buyers saw EcoSport diesel in their countries. Other markets didn’t have it, but next season even the US fans could get the 2019 Ford EcoSport with such engine. The 2019 Ford EcoSport will offer three trims for the base engine and one more for four-pot unit. The entry-level SUV is S; the SE is mid-range, and the most interesting and the most popular is Titanium crossover. It comes with premium audio and infotainment system. Here, we can find voice commands and navigation. Leather seats make the interior elegant and comfortable.
A 2.0-liter engine will be available in SES trim level. This one is also going to offers some unique features, such as 17-inch wheels. Inside, it uses the same navigation, info- and entertaining system as 2019 Ford EcoSportTitanium.
2019 Ford EcoSport Compared to Ford Escape
While the first edition in the US was based on its bigger sibling, the 2019 Ford EcoSport will have more unique features. Whatsoever, this is a subcompact SUV, while the Escape belongs to higher tier. That means bigger engine, higher outputs, and more room in the cabin.
Base models of Ford Escape are using 2.5-liter engine with 170 hp. This SUV is also longer for 17 inches, and its wheelbase is also stretched for 6 inches compared to EcoSport. When we measure up volumes inside the cabin, we see that compact crossover has 13 cubic-feet more for storage space. So, the Escape’s towing capacity reaches 3,500 pounds. The 2019 Ford EcoSport will sit at 2,000 lbs.
