The name could make us think we are talking about some compact, agile SUV. But, in the matter of fact, the 2019 Ford Flex is a full-size crossover. With a room for seven passengers and generous cargo space, it is a perfect vehicle for long trips. However, some rumors are informing of its discontinuation after 2020. On the other hand, 2019 Flex will get some updates to revive the nameplate.
The first Flex model arrived with economic crisis. All cars are still suffering, and we will hardly find any model with such high market sales as some had in early 2000’s. However, the Flex is selling 20,000-30,000 units every year, making it predictable and a sure bet. With the changes for the upcoming model, the Blue Oval company will try to shake things up on the market. We will see how 2019 Ford Flex is going to perform.
2019 Ford Flex Competition
It is not all about the vehicle itself. Many other factors are important for its performance on the market. First of all, we have other full-size crossovers by the same carmaker. There are Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator rolling out from the same factories. But, if size and purpose of these SUVs are the same, the price is making 2019 Ford Flex much more attractive. With starting cost of $32,000, it will be a better solution for buyers which don’t want to pay $50k and more for Ford Expedition, or over $70k for Navigator.
2019 Ford Flex Gas Mileage, Towing Capacity, Horsepower Rating
The 2019 Ford Flex is going to use the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine as its predecessor. Two ways of this drivetrain will deliver either 290 or 365 horsepower. It all depends if you choose option with turbocharger. Torque also gets a boost from 255 lb-ft to 350 pound-feet.
Both powertrains are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2019 Ford Flex could get the new 10-speed gearbox. It will help a full-size SUV to deliver better gas mileage numbers. New transmission would definitely add few miles per gallon, raising the fuel economy to 25 mpg for FWD models without turbocharger. On the other hand, gearbox choice can’t radically change towing capacity rating. So, the 2019 Flex will keep its capability to tow 4,500 pounds
2019 Ford Flex Redesign
A new concept could bring some big changes. We already mentioned the new transmission. That is not all, since the 2019 Ford Flex could suffer exterior and interior revisits, boosting its overall appearance. Whatsoever, designers are limited with features and accessories, since the Flex is full-size SUV with reasonable prices.Revisit of bumpers, lights, and wheels, in combination with new colors won’t cost too much.
2019 Ford Flex Release Date and Trim Levels
The 2019 Ford Flex will come by the end of this year. Also, first units will be on streets in final quarter. Again, the crossover is coming in the base SE version and SEL as slightly upgraded SUV. Top of the class model will be Limited Edition. It will cost around $40,000. Premium 19-inch wheels outside and high-tech features inside are making it more expensive than the standard units.
