After the MKX crossover, the Lincoln MKZ sedan could be discontinued. Well, the SUV has its legit successor in Nautilus, and we still don’t know who will be the next sedan. Competitors of the 2019 Lincoln MKZ can’t wait to hear this news, but the vehicle will have at least one more run in the form we know it. By the end of a decade, the big redesign will lead to a new generation, or we will see a totally different concept – an all-electric sedan with the autonomous drive system.
Reasons why 2019 Lincoln MKZ could be discontinued soon, are falling sales records. The sedan managed to be sold in 31,000 copies last year. Many buyers decide to invest more money and buy premium Lincoln Continental. Also, bosses are turning to other segments, knowing that no other car can reach its flagship model. So, it is obvious why Lincoln MKZ could see the transformation to an all-electric vehicle.
2019 Lincoln MKZ is a Proven Hybrid
The 2019 Lincoln MKZ is going to offer a hybrid engine, again. This kind of power source was a highlight of the last edition. Engineers upgraded standard petrol unit with electric batteries without increasing the price. That is the first thing buyers want to hear – extras for free. However, when we get something as a bonus, it usually doesn’t work so well. But, that is not the case with this hybrid.
Well, the downside is that outputs are not so generous as for the standard petrol unit. But, whoever prefers fuel-friendly nature of its car over high speeds will pick a 2019 Lincoln MKZ hybrid. The new model will top the 41/38 mpg rating of its predecessor. Petrol version can’t do better than 31 mpg on the highway with a front-wheel drive.
2019 Lincoln MKZ Petrol Specs
Under the hood of the base model will be a 2.0-liter inline-four drivetrain. The same unit is used in a hybrid combo, paired with an AC magnet motor. For standard 2019 Lincoln MKZ, it can create 250 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is mated to this unit and distributes power to front wheels. All-wheel drive is an alternative.
The second option is a V-6. A 3.0-liter can produce 400 horses thanks to the powerful turbocharger. However, engineers will decrease this to 350 hp for FWD model.
2019 Lincoln MKZ Redesign and Interior
Next big redesign of the sedan we could see with the new generation, or if the car sees the all-electric version. Until then, 2019 Lincoln MKZ will keep familiar lines of its predecessors. More updates will happen in the cabin. The luxurious car is going to offer the latest features and accessories, which validate high price of the sedan.
2019 Lincoln MKZ Competitors and Price
The main rival of the 2019 Lincoln MKZ will be again Acura TLX. Nevertheless, other competitors are Buick Lacrosse and Audi A4. Volvo is also preparing a new V60 for the US market. The entry-level version will cost between $37,000 and $38,000, while AWD sedan goes over $40k. As we already mentioned, the hybrid version of Lincoln MKZ costs no extra money. But, the significant increase in the price can come when Black Label edition rolls into dealerships. This sedan will cost no less than $65,000.
