The ongoing 2020 Ford Bronco is making its return and everyone are expecting some great things to happen. There is so many rumors and questions about the return of such an iconic model. For the start, why Blue Oval decided to recall the Bronco SUV at the first place? Ford Bronco will be a global vehicle, it will offer numerous trim levels and numerous drivetrain choices. Literally, each market will get new Bronco with at least two engine options. One of those options is a diesel unit for sure.
Even the Bronco Raptor is almost certain, so the options are numerous. That will make Bronco very customizable and practical vehicle after all. We already wrote about the arriving Bronco model and its specs. Now, we will move the focus on to the diesel model, how much it will cost and what type of engine it will get.
2020 Ford Bronco Diesel Drivetrain Rumors
First of all, everything we are going to write is a bunch of rumors and speculations. To be honest, we are still far from any clearer picture of the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco Diesel. There is so many speculations about this model, but we’ll try to deliver the most realistic outcomes. Ford Bronco will for sure offer a couple of EcoBoost engines. A 2.7-liter V6 that generates 325 horses will be a standard unit. But, what about the optional diesel engine?
The interests in the diesel powertrains are getting bigger and bigger each and every year. Diesel units are a “must have” with some of the most popular vehicles in the world, and Bronco will be one of those vehicles for sure. Some of the most reliable sources are suggesting the 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel powertrain. Also, a five-cylinder 3.2-liter Power Stroke DOHC is the candidate. Let’s move on.
Power Stroke Diesel Engine Specs
While the Blue Oval carmaker is silent about the possible engine, we must go through the all possibilities. The most important question is “why 3.0-liter Power Stroke”? For the start, this engine is most likely to happen for so many reasons. Bronco needs to have an option that brings in more torque and better fuel economy. On top of that, developing a new engine is too expensive, which means Bronco will borrow diesel drivetrain.
A smaller unit is the perfect candidate, but there is something more. While the 3.2-liter offers 6-speed automatic gearbox, the 3.0-liter engine comes with an all-new and smooth 10-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain will deliver 350 lb-ft of torque, which sounds like a great thing.
2020 Ford Bronco Diesel Fuel Economy
When you look at the rest of Ford’s lineup of crossovers and SUVs, some things are becoming clearer. The Ford Explorer comes with a fuel economy that is rated at 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The rest of the mid and full-size SUVs are offering more or less the same figures. With that in mind, the 2020 Ford Bronco Diesel will arrive with a fuel economy that delivers around 16/22 mpg.
Now, the diesel engines are more fuel-efficient thanks to the low-end torque. That means diesel unit is by 20% to 35% more efficient than the gasoline unit. Moreover, it means Ford Bronco Diesel will deliver 20/25 mpg which equals Toyota Highlander.
2020 Ford Bronco Diesel Price
We still don’t know the exact price of the base Bronco model equipped with a gasoline engine. But let’s say it will cost $35,000. If that is the starting price, the 2020 Ford Bronco Diesel will cost typically $2-3k more.
I already have $3,500 set aside for this beautiful beast. Just waiting for it to hit the lot at Hagerstown Ford in Maryland. Ever since I heard about the 2020 Ford Bronco I put aside $200 a month. I want this, and I will get this.
