Ford’s future plans are the clear indication that the U.S. market is only good for SUVs and pickup trucks. There is no place for cars and MPVs like before, however, the rest of the world is offering a bright future for the sedans and hatchbacks. Even the minivan segment is spreading across the planet. The 2020 Ford C-Max is perhaps one of the finest examples. This model will no longer exist, at least not in North America. On the other hand, the rest of the world, mainly Europe, will find a room for this compact MPV.
This comes as no surprise as the C-Max is the Blue Oval’s worst-selling U.S. nameplate. The 2019 model was refreshed and the 2020 model will also arrive with minor upgrades only. C-Max will ride on the same platform as Ford Focus and the interior will be very similar. Regular model will offer an EcoBoost engine and the Hybrid variant a four-cylinder in combination with the electric motor. C-Max Energi is still uncertain for Europe and if it arrives it will cost significantly more than the base model.
Exterior Upgrades
Just like the current model, the future one will also host a couple of upgrades. Most of the changes will happen from the outside, however, those changes are barely visible. For the start, the minivan will look stylish and attractive. Modern styling is easy to spot, especially the trapezoidal grille up front.
The adaptive lighting system is available once again, along with the hands-free liftgate. The 2020 Ford C-Max will keep its dimensions and shape. On the other hand, the grille will be slightly wider and the headlights are looking slimmer than before. The rear end gets enhanced tailgate and that is about it when it comes to exterior upgrades.
A drop of Sales and Discount
Ford is planning to discount the C-Max model. The 2020 Ford C-Max is happening for sure, but the future models are very uncertain. Ford is slowly ditching all vehicles that are not SUVs and pickup trucks. Unfortunately, C-Max is a minivan that is Ford’s worst-selling nameplate in the U.S. The thing is, C-Max’s competitors such as Toyota Prius were all offering better mileage.
For an instance, Prius totaled 52 mpg combined and C-Max 40 mpg only. For that reason, C-Max will continue its journey in Europe where is surely more popular. On the other hand, Europe is not that much developed when it comes to charging the hybrid model. As a matter of fact, charging hybrids are usually done at home.
2020 Ford C-Max Engine Specs
We are yet to find out which engine will find its place under the hood of the all-new 2020 Ford C-Max. The European model will most likely deploy a 1.6-liter EcoBoost drivetrain. It can produce up to 150 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. Whatsoever, the hybrid model offers a combination of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor.
This mix should provide up to 190 horses and 130 lb-ft of torque. Mileage should see further improvements, around 45 mpg. Speaking of mileage, the Energi model is still a mystery, but if it arrives, it will offer an astonishing all-electric driving range.
2020 Ford C-Max Price and Release Date
The price of the 2020 Ford C-Max will start at around $25,000. The hybrid model will cost slightly more, around $28,000. On the other hand, the Energi model will cost significantly more, if it arrives. New C-Max will hit the markets later this year.
