2020 will be a wild year for Ford. Blue Oval carmaker did so many significant changes for the next year. For the start, Ford plans to kill all passenger cars except Focus and Mustang models. Some of the models from the car lineup won’t be produced anymore. Some of them will survive the first wave and will be offered in Europe only. You may find this fact, as a positive thing, or negative. The reality is that the SUV and pickup truck segment is growing fast.
With the latest information, Ford will refresh over 75 percent of its models. Ford is managing great sales, especially in the United States. For that reason, Blue Oval will surely feel the absence of good-selling models such as Fusion or Fiesta. On the other hand, the Blue Oval will look to provide an even better year with some exciting news. For example, Ranger and Bronco models are making a huge comeback. That will be more than enough to fill in the gap of vehicles that won’t be produced anymore. Here are ten things that will surely excite every automotive fan in 2020.
A Word or Two About Lincoln
Let’s start with the Lincoln, Ford’s luxury brand automaker. According to the latest information, Ford’s plan to kill all sedans and hatchbacks won’t affect Lincoln’s car lineup. That means the Continental model will continue with its production. Whatsoever, Lincoln will continue to offer its Navigator and Aviator SUVs. The Navigator will face another exciting year, this time thanks to its new hybrid drivetrain.
However, the best news from Lincoln will be the introduction of the “Corsair” model. It is a replacement for the MKC model. However, changes are far beyond the change of the nameplate. The 2020 Corsair will look even more attractive and it will depart from the MKC model in numerous ways. However, just like the MKC, Corsair will be based on the Ford Escape.
2020 F-Series Super Duty
The forthcoming 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty lineup will bring a lot of excitement. Blue Oval is bringing significant upgrades every three years. Last drastic change happened in 2017. Now, the 2020 lineup will get numerous updates. That includes new bodywork and improved interior.
Whatsoever, even some changes under the hood are about to happen. That includes improved diesel variant and one all-new gasoline engine. With this option, Super Duty is ready to conquer the heavy-duty pickup truck segment once again. Expect reliable and powerful performance.
2020 Ford Edge ST – The Fastest Non-Premium SUV
The 2020 Ford Edge is about to arrive, but it won’t introduce significant changes. Whatsoever, new Edge will be a complete carryover. However, one thing will surely get the crowd going. The all-new Ford Edge ST will arrive and it will replace the current Sport trim level. This model will largely depart from the current one and it will deliver numerous upgrades and changes. Edge ST will become a Blue Oval’s first high-performance SUV.
And the best part, it will be the world’s fastest non-premium SUV. So, if you are a fan of speed and performance, but can’t afford luxury models, Edge ST is the answer. Unlike the base model, 2020 Edge ST will ride on a 2.7-liter V6. This turbocharged unit will generate up to 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.
Redesigned 2020 Ford Explorer
Somehow, Explorer was never appreciated enough. Interestingly, the latest proper upgrade happened in 2016. However, the 2020 Ford Explorer will arrive with a redesign. Blue Oval has already introduced a Police Interceptor variant. However, this version won’t largely depart from the civilian variant. Design-wise, the 2020 Explorer will continue to wear the same design language. Explorer will ride on the same platform that underpins Lincoln Aviator.
There will be at least three engine options. Besides the current 2.3-liter EcoBoost and 3.3-liter V6, Explorer will get a mild-hybrid system. The hybrid model will probably become the most popular choice among the customers. Also, Explorer ST will arrive as well. This high-performance model will cost significantly more than the base model.
Mighty 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500
Ford introduced the all-new 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 this January. Of course, this model is still not available and it will arrive in the second half of 2019. The price is a mystery for now. However, GT500 will become the most powerful Mustang ever, and probably the most expensive one. Whatsoever, this car will deploy a strong 5.2-liter V8 engine.
The same unit can be found under the hood of the GT350 model. However, thanks to some major tweaks, this engine will produce over 700 horsepower. Unfortunately, manual gearbox won’t be in the offer. However, Shelby GT500 will most likely get a brand-new dual-clutch transmission.
Return of the Ford Ranger in the U.S.
The pickup truck segment is growing faster than you think. For that reason, every established automaker is looking to deliver a couple of new models. However, Ford will not offer an all-new model. No, Blue Oval will introduce the iconic Ford Ranger model. A huge comeback is about to happen as the Ranger was discounted in 2012. Of course, Ranger continued its sales globally, but not in the United States. Perhaps it doesn’t look like a big deal, except it is.
Mid-size pickup will deliver a class-leading tow rating and payload capacities. You will be able to buy the 2020 Ford Ranger in SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations. Also, numerous trim levels will be available. A 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine will be in the offer and it will deliver 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Also, you can expect a Ranger Raptor variant with a powerful turbodiesel engine.
2020 Ford Expedition
Ford’s largest SUV will undergo some small changes. Expedition SUV suffered a redesign last year. For that reason, we don’t expect anything significant to happen. However, the 2020 Ford Expedition will be one of the best-selling models in the Blue Oval kingdom. This model is available in two different sizes. Regular Expedition is 122.5-inch long and Expedition MAX 131.6-inches. Expedition sports an aggressive design and spacious interior. T
he same 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivers 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. However, if you opt for the range-topping Platinum model, you’ll get additional 25 horses and 10 lb-ft of twist. All trim levels will get the same 10-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel-drive will be optional. The 2020 Expedition will offer great performances, stylish design and very premium and spacious cabin. Upper trim levels are offering nothing but the luxury.
Ford F-150 Hybrid Will Finally Happen
The best-selling Ford’s model will finally offer a hybrid version. The 2020 Ford F-150 Hybrid is one of the most exciting models in the light-duty segment. While the official information is not available yet, we already have a clear picture. When it comes to fuel economy, standard 2.7-liter EcoBoost delivers 22 mpg. Optional 3.3-liter V6 is rated at 21 mpg and 3.5-liter EcoBoost at 19 mpg combined. However, F-150 Hybrid will use the most powerful output, a 5.0-liter V8.
Pairing such a powerful unit with an electric motor and battery pack will be good for over 400 horses. Also, 400 lb-ft of torque sounds more than promising. Payload and tow rating will be improved, and mileage will be astonishing. Besides the mild-hybrid system, this pickup will deliver slight design upgrades. Rear-wheel-drive configuration remains. Also, you can use your F-150 Hybrid as a mobile generator from now on. That means you can charge things or use electric tools.
2020 Ford Bronco is Back
After years of absence, Ford is returning the iconic Bronco model. New 2020 Ford Bronco is built on the same platform that underpins Ford Ranger. Moreover, Bronco will be a complete package that will look to rival Jeep Wrangler. The good thing about Bronco is its versatility. You can opt for short or long wheelbase options. Moreover, two and four-door variants will be on sale. Removable top, attractive appearance and premium cabin are making this SUV so upscale.
Bronco will share a 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine with the Ranger model. This unit provides 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. On top of that, a 10-speed automatic gearbox is available. Surely, Ford will offer optional engines as well. Probably strong V6 and turbodiesel variants. If that is not enough for you, Bronco Hybrid will arrive as well.
Fourth-Generation 2020 Ford Escape
Blue Oval is returning Bronco and Ranger models. The famous F-150 pickup truck comes with a hybrid drivetrain. But for us, the 2020 Ford Escape will be the most exciting thing. All-new Escape will undergo a complete overhaul and will enter its fourth-generation. Compact crossover will surely become one of the most selling models in Ford’s rich lineup of vehicles. Escape will be longer and wider than its predecessor. Also, it will ride on the next-gen Focus platform. That will provide a better safety rating and the platform can accommodate a hybrid system.
The hybrid model will most likely pair a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with the electric motor. This engine solely produces up to 180 hp and optional 2.0-liter turbocharged engine up to 245 hp. The hybrid variant will surely deliver slightly more power. The only mystery will be a gearbox. New-gen Escape will offer a completely new look and upscale interior design.
