The all-new 2020 Ford Edge is confirmed, but the new model won’t suffer any significant updates. The 2019 model got some changes and the Blue Oval carmaker sees no needs for further changes at the moment. The 2019 Edge got visible design changes and the ST variant replaced Sport trim level. The same will happen again with the Ford Edge ST that will for sure arrive in the near future.
The 2020 model offers the current engine lineup and the only changes will happen in the safety department. Ford Edge ST adds sportier presence, better performance, and more standard equipment.
Exterior and Interior Updates
The exterior will carry over from the current model so the 2020 Ford Edge will arrive unchanged. That includes the wider grille, new style of the hood and a new set of headlamps. The same headlights growth in size and the LED lighting system is standard. The rear offers a power liftgate and a new style of the bumper. Generally, the design is new and fresh, so the further changes will probably happen in 2021.
The interior of the 2020 Ford Edge is very comfortable and inviting. The design of the cabin is astonishing and the level of luxury will rise through the trim levels. There will be four trim levels as before so you can equip your Edge with leather upholstery and premium features thanks to the optional equipment or upper trims.
Better Safety
The 2020 Ford Edge won’t suffer major updates, but the safety department suffered the most changes. Edge SUV now offers a suite of smart driver assist and safety aids that will especially help drivers without experience. The 2020 Edge now offers a latest Sync3 system with Alexa support. Furthermore, evasive steering assist and automatic emergency braking are in the offer.
The existing features such as pre-collision assist and adaptive cruise control will remain. A Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 system is optional and it includes blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, and a rearview camera. New Edge comes with a five-star crash rating now and is probably the leader in its segment from now on.
Drivetrain options
The current model gets some changes under the hood. The previous 3.5-liter V6 is gone and a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine is available. This unit will be standard and will deliver 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This also means the 6-speed automatic transmission will be replaced for the 8-speed automatic gearbox.
If you want stronger performance than you’ll have to opt for the Ford Edge ST. This sportier variant comes with a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with twin turbochargers. The V6 returns 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. Also, an all-wheel-drive setup is standard on the ST models.
2020 Ford Edge Price and Release Date
The approaching 2020 Ford Edge will keep the existing prices. There will be four trim levels and the base SE models will start at $30,000. The SEL trims will cost $33,000 and Titanium version up to $39,000. The 2020 Edge ST costs $42,500. This SUV will go on sale in the second half of 2019.
