The full-size SUV segment is growing. Interestingly, the full-size SUV is more affordable than before. Back in the days, those models are both rugged and expensive. Now, they are more versatile and more subtle. The 2020 Ford Expedition Diesel is the latest example. The upcoming model will get numerous visual upgrades and it will look very simple but impressive.
Expedition is offering both gasoline and diesel engines, besides the hybrid powertrain. It is a cheaper version of the premium SUV, such as Lincoln Navigator. Blue Oval will introduce numerous upgrades. On the other hand, trim levels will largely remain. On top of that, you can opt for the FX4 off-road package that will become available in 2020.
2020 Expedition – Facelift
The full-size SUV will look modest and refreshed. As you probably know, 2018 was the year when Blue Oval introduced the new-gen Expedition. Thanks to that, the 2020 Ford Expedition Diesel looks almost brand-new. Moreover, the 2020 model will be a carryover in many categories. As for the exterior, Ford will deliver subtle and minor visual upgrades.
Expedition SUV will remain 210-inches long. Whatsoever, you can opt for the Expedition Max version that is 221.9-inch long. We like the look of the front fascia. Plenty of chrome, aggressive grille and LED headlights are all available as standard. The wheels are ranged from 20-inch to 22-inches. The hands-free tailgate is standard too, one of the latest features.
Diesel Specs
Yes, Expedition SUV will get its diesel variant. Currently, gasoline version can tow up to 9,000 pounds. All-new 2020 Ford Expedition Diesel will surely raise the bar, possibly over 11,000 pounds. The question is, which engine will Ford opt for? At this moment, a 3.0-liter PowerStroke is the most likely option.
This powertrain generates up to 250 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to its large proportions, Expedition won’t offer such a great fuel economy figures. The best outcome is 21 mpg for a diesel powertrain. However, we should wait for this rumor to become official.
Platinum Trim Level
If you want real luxury, Expedition Platinum is the answer. There will be numerous trim levels, but Platinum is something completely different. The 2020 Ford Expedition Diesel will offer this trim level too. It won’t depart from the regular gasoline variant at all. Think of a Lincoln Navigator. A full-size luxury SUV that is premium in every possible way.
Well, Expedition Platinum is very similar. Plenty of room, wood and chrome accents, high-quality materials and leather upholstery are all available. On top of that, larger displays, a long list of standard features and elegant looks are just boosting the level of luxury.
2020 Ford Expedition Diesel Price and Release Date
As we wrote in the beginning, the 2020 Ford Expedition Diesel isn’t a premium SUV. The base model starts at around $52,500. Platinum trim level is more expensive, around $80,000. Just to compare, the cheapest Lincoln Navigator starts at $75,000.
Diesel powertrain will surely attract more customers, thanks to its torque figures. Ford will release its diesel version of the full-size SUV in the coming months.
