The 2020 Ford Flex is a three-row crossover SUV that has so much to offer. As its name suggests, this model is very flexible and it can be used for various purposes. For the start, the interior can accommodate seven passengers and is a real family favorite. It mixes wagon-like proportions with the retro SUV styling, and some will mistake Ford Flex for a minivan.
So, how is that even possible? Firstly, utility-wise the 2020 Flex is an SUV, and when it comes to roominess and access, Flex is more like a station wagon or minivan. Changes and upgrades are unlikely for this model. On top of that, some rumors are saying Blue Oval carmaker plans to discount Ford Flex due to a low sales.
2020 Ford Flex Exterior and Interior Changes
The upcoming 2020 Ford Flex comes with a really unique design that is hard to compare with. Its blocky appearance will remain, just like the low ride height. Generally, the exterior will stay intact, but some changes will happen. An optional power tailgate will come as standard now while the Multipanel Vista Roof remains as an option. Some new character lines are slightly changed and the exterior upgrades are kept to a minimum.
When it comes to the interior, the 2020 Flex will offer generous legroom and headroom as always. A three-row seat configuration remains, and there is room for seven. However, the only interior changes are that some optional equipment is becoming standard. Moreover, the infotainment system will get an upgrade and the number of buttons is in a slight decrease. Besides that, Flex won’t suffer any further changes.
Performance, Transmission and Tow Rating
The 2020 Ford Flex will come with two drivetrain options just like the current model. It is actually a single powertrain, a 3.5-liter V6 but with two different configurations. The first configuration that is standard, delivers up to 290 horses and 350 lb-ft of torque.
Second and optional configuration can produce up to 365 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, in order to improve trailering and tow rating. Additionally, there is an optional package that can help new 2020 Ford Flex to tow up to 4,500 pounds.
Withdrawal of the 2020 Ford Flex is under consideration?
After the 2020 model, the situation about the Ford Flex is a no-brainer. Ford will either withdraw this crossover or the production will continue in 2021. However, according to Detroit Free Press, Ford is planning to ditch the 2020 Ford Flex.
It is yet unclear when will that happen because, in reality, it could happen in three or four years. The same reports are suggesting the Blue Oval company is focusing on models such as Ford Edge and Lincoln MKC.
2020 Ford Flex Price and Release Date
As the latest upgrades are minor, the 2020 Ford Flex will carry on with the price tag of $32,000 for the base trim. Upper trims such as Limited Edition will cost $40,000 or slightly more. This three-row crossover will go on sale in the second half of 2019 as the model for 2020.
