An all-electric car with 200-mile driving range sounds good, right? In order to rival Tesla Model 3 and Chevy Bolt, Blue Oval is releasing the 2020 Ford Model E. The 2019 model is yet to roll out on to the markets and we are already talking about the 2020 model.
Similar to the Model T, Ford Model E will offer a hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. Of course, an all-electric model is Ford’s primary target. Moreover, Model E will arrive in several different body styles so we can expect a crossover model in the near future. This car will use the platform that underpins the current Ford Focus and the exterior will look very modern.
2020 Ford Model E Body Styles
The 2019 model should arrive in a compact car variant. However, the crossover model could arrive in 2020. We all know about Blue Oval’s plans to ditch most of the cars and turn totally to the crossovers and SUVs. Moreover, Ford’s plan to electrify most of its vehicles is a well-known thing.
With that in mind, the crossover is the logical outcome. Both body styles will arrive with modern design and beautiful design. The 2020 Ford Model E will come probably in a hatchback form firstly, but some sources are predicting sedan-like appearance.
Competition
The rivalry between the Ford Model E and Tesla Model 3 started before the start actually. Ford already won one battle with Tesla. As you may know, Tesla offers four models, S 3, X, Y. You may notice the Model 3 carries the number instead of letter “E”. Ford shut down the possibility of Tesla using this letter as Ford already had a model E a hundred of a year ago.
It all ended in a funny way when Elon Musk said the Ford is trying to kill sex, as a reference to Tesla’s models carrying the name S3XY. Besides that, Chevy Bolt is a serious competitor with an astonishing driving range. Next-gen Nissan Leaf also enters the competition.
Engine Specs and Driving Range
The forthcoming 2020 Ford Model E will arrive with a 200-mile driving range. For example, Ford Focus Electric is the company’s best model when it comes to driving range which offers 76 miles. Both Chevy Bolt and Tesla Model 3 will also offer over 200 miles.
We still don’t know which drivetrain will appear in the hybrid variant. However, some speculations are saying the 2.0-liter EcoBoost unit is the most likely outcome. This engine delivers up to 250 horsepower.
2020 Ford Model E Price and Release Date
The upcoming 2020 Ford Model E will most likely arrive at the beginning of 2020 and it will offer numerous trim levels. The 2019 model will hit the markets next summer, just like the Tesla Model 3 and Chevy Bolt. The competition is real. On the other hand, Model E will cost $30,000 or slightly more.
