The approaching 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor is one hard-core pickup truck. Ranger will arrive as taller and wider model, but that is not the only change. A new diesel engine is in the offer as well. This full-size off-road monster will firstly arrive in Asian and Pacific markets, but according to latest spy shots, even the U.S. market could get Ranger, finally.
After some spy shots leaked on the internet, we had an opportunity to see a Ranger Raptor pickup wearing camouflage. Sure, some changes are visible, but one of them is shockingly visible. The new Ranger will be available in both left-hand and right-hand-drive, for the first time. That means this model will arrive not only in Asia and Australia but also in the U.S., maybe even Europe.
New Platform
The exterior will suffer some changes for sure, mostly minor. While the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor is still wearing a camouflage, we know that the new platform is in the line. The 2020 Ranger Raptor will share a lot with the regular model, however, improvements are a must, especially because of the off-roading. That means the Raptor version will depart from the base Ranger model and will get a new platform. Moreover, the new long-travel suspension setup is available, thanks to the latest dimensional increase of Ranger.
Left-Hand-Drive and Interior
As we mention, perhaps the biggest change for the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor will be a left-hand-drive model. Of course, the right-hand-drive model will remain, it just means that the new Ranger will arrive in the various market across the globe, including the U.S. The left-hand-drive will mirror literally everything, both in terms of the exterior and interior.
The updates inside the cabin are visible, but far from major refreshments. The first thing to notice is heavily bolstered front seats with suede inserts. Leather seats are standard and are available with blue contrast stitching. The performance steering wheel comes with the grips at the two and ten o’clock, also done in leather. The latest infotainment system is in the offer, new gear shifter as well and Raptor’s logo is visible all over the cabin.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor Powertrain
The Asia-Pacific Raptor will for sure ride on a 2.0-liter diesel engine. This twin-turbocharged unit generates up to 200 hp. However, the U.S. market will get a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 as the base powertrain. This V6 is capable of producing up to 325 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque. The same engine can be found in the F-150 and Edge ST models.
Price and Arrival Date
The all-new 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor will cost about $40,000, maybe slightly more. The price is in line with rivals such as Chevy Colorado ZR2 and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. The Asian Pacific market will offer more or less the same price, for sure. This full-size pickup truck will go on sale at the very end of 2019.
