Just like the rest of the most established carmakers, Lincoln is also turning its attention to the crossovers and SUVs. Probably the biggest news from the company is the all-new 2020 Lincoln Corsair. It is a model that is replacing the existing MKC model. According to our sources, the MK-type of models will remain. However, the 2020 Corsair will be the next-gen SUV. We didn’t saw the concept but we saw the latest spy shots.
Corsair model won’t depart that much from the MKC model, but the redesign is happening for sure. We don’t know if it’s only the first step in Lincoln’s plan to deliver an all-new SUV. Whatsoever, the exterior and interior will suffer significant upgrades while the powertrain will remain, at least for now. On the other hand, the hybrid engine is almost certain.
The Name
It is yet unclear if Lincoln is planning to the same with the rest of the “MK” vehicles. However, replacing the MKC with the “Corsair” is at least a first step. You must admit, Corsair sounds way cooler than the MKC. But on the other hand, the Corsair name isn’t that new as you might expect. Ford already had the model with such a name in the 60s.
Even before that, a Phantom Corsair was a concept. Only one unit was built, probably because of the bullet-like strange design that no one ever wanted to buy. But this isn’t the way Lincoln rolls. No, after the Aviator and Navigator, Corsair makes perfect sense. The name was originally taken from the pirate ships.
Spy Shots
A testing vehicle, for what we believe is the new 2020 Lincoln Corsair, was spotted in Arizona. The details are well hidden so we can’t tell too much about the exterior and the interior design. However, you can see a wider stance than the current MKC.
The shape is similar and the driver’s side hides an opening that could suggest a plug-in hybrid model. Of course, the hybrid drivetrain is very certain, we still don’t know if all Corsairs will be hybrids. Moreover, it could be only one of the options besides the gasoline engine that should be standard.
2020 Lincoln Corsair Engine Choices
The upcoming 2020 Lincoln Corsair will feature a hybrid option. As we wrote already, it is yet unclear if all of the models will be hybrids or hybrid is just one of the options. The second variant is more likely to happen, as some sources already claim the MKC’s engine lineup will remain.
That means the standard engine will remain a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo. This unit is capable of generating 250 hp and 270 lb-ft of twists. The optional 2.3-liter is also in the offer and it can produce 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque.
2020 Lincoln Corsair Price and Release Date
The all-new 2020 Lincoln Corsair will cost slightly over the current Lincoln MKC model. That means the arriving SUV will be priced at around $35,000. The hybrid version will start at $40,000 and Black Label models will cost up to $50,000. New Corsair SUV will hit the markets at the beginning of 2020.
