The forthcoming 2021 Ford Bronco R is happening. Ford made it official and it is the racing variant of the brand-new Bronco SUV. The R version will compete in the Baja 1000 race this November. Two videos are showing exactly what you can expect from the Bronco R prototype. The video is showing this SUV doing its things in the desert. Its exterior looks amazing, with the black, red, and white color scheme.
This is the way Ford pays tribute to the 1969 Ford Bronco. The race model is driven by legendary Rod Hall. The Blue Oval manufacturer will add various equipment and unique styling cues. It is the Bronco R that tells us more about regular Bronco SUV that will make a huge comeback this year. Here’s everything you need to know.
2021 Bronco R – How It Looks?
The all-new 2021 Ford Bronco R will wear a new Bronco logo for the first time. As we said, the R variant shows what we can expect from the regular Bronco model. However, Bronco R is made exclusively for the Baja race and it will wear massive all-terrain tires. On top of that, it looks beefier and it comes with more ground clearance. The lack of windows is usual for this type of vehicle. However, some styling cues will be exactly the same as on the regular production model. That includes a boxy greenhouse with a long nose.
It is a classic retro-styling body-on-frame SUV that will offer both practicality and versatility. It is a perfect way to test Bronco’s components. This will be a true torture test for the Bronco R when it enters the Baja race this November. This model looks aggressive and tough. Blue Oval automaker will introduce wider fenders and new Fox suspension. This model will ride on the T6 platform, the same architecture that underpins Ford Ranger pickup.
2021 Ford Bronco R Engine Specs
We mentioned two videos that are available at the moment. In the first seconds of the video, the sound of an engine clearly suggests a powerful V6 engine. That means the forthcoming 2021 Ford Bronco R will deploy a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost powertrain option. This output uses a pair of small turbochargers and it sounds incredible. We have no doubt that the performance will be equally great. However, the exact performance figures are not available yet.
We told you that Ford plans to provide various mechanical upgrades. Besides the mentioned Fox suspension, Bronco R will arrive with an independent front actuation with a solid rear axle. The regular Bronco SUV will slightly depart from it. It will ride on a proven 2.7-liter engine and it won’t offer standard 4×4 configuration.
What Else is Important?
The approaching 2021 Ford Bronco R will make its racing debut on November 19. It is a Baja 1000 race and Ford will commemorate the 50th anniversary of iconic Rod Hall’s win. Hall has claimed 24 Baja 1000 wins but Ford said the race that happened 50 years ago will never repeat. Interestingly, the brand chose Hall’s granddaughter Shelby to drive new Bronco R.
