The upcoming 2021 Ford Escape PHEV is back in the game. This popular SUV will once again obtain hybrid powertrain and some details are already available. The sales should start in the coming months in North America. Moreover, the Kuga model is also coming to Europe. It is a mild-hybrid option, but Blue Oval manufacturer will also introduce full hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants as well.
All Escape’s version will gain the same updates. That includes various exterior refinements and interior upgrades in terms of technology. Escape will remain one of Ford’s best-selling models and here’s what we know so far about its PHEV variant.
Exterior Changes
Have in mind that all of the Escape’s versions will look the same. That means there will be no difference between a plug-in hybrid and a regular model, for an instance. The 2021 Ford Escape PHEV will arrive with mid-cycle refreshments. That includes a couple of exterior refreshments. For a start, this SUV will get larger exterior features.
On top of that, the front fascia looks more distinctive now, and overall, Escape is sharper than before. The platform will remain which means there will be no dimensional changes at all. The Blue Oval manufacturer will deliver additional chrome accents and reshaped angular LED headlights. This SUV will ride on 18-inch wheels while the rear part won’t introduce any sort of upgrades.
2021 Escape PHEV Specs
A hybrid variant is finally back. The all-new 2021 Ford Escape PHEV will become an instant hit once it arrives on the markets. Ford will offer new Escape in mild hybrid, full hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions. Of course, the PHEV variant is the most interesting one. To compare, mild hybrid Escape comes with a smaller 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. On the other hand, PHEV Escape will use a larger 14.4 kWh battery. Thanks to that, this SUV will go around 31 miles on all-electric power.
The customers won’t like the standard front-wheel-drive system. As a matter of fact, many fans hoped for a standard AWD setup. One step at a time, Ford returned its Escape model on the path of electrification. The plug-in hybrid system will combine 2.5-liter gasoline with an electric motor. Escape PHEV will take around 3.5 hours to fully recharge and this SUV can tow up to 4900 pounds. Lastly, it will deliver 41 mpg combined.

No doubt, Escape PHEV will sit on top of the compact crossover segment with its plug-in hybrid version. Moreover, the price is affordable in our opinion. Whatsoever, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV costs more, around $37,500.
Still, Toyota RAV4 Prime is a brand-new model that will also represent a strong option in the segment. It comes with a standard AWD and it provides more power than Escape PHEV.
