Thanks to its new platform, a new 2021 Ford Explorer will get a lot of improvements. For the start, ride quality is much better and more pleasant. On top of that, the interior will be even comfier. Visually, 2021 Explorer will get a couple of upgrades as well. However, all of the major changes are happening under its skin.
New Explorer will be mechanically upgraded in so many ways. Rear-wheel-drive setup will be standard which is another important upgrade. The engine lineup will remain as Blue Oval feels there is no need for additional refreshments. However, Ford is offering Explorer ST and Explorer Hybrid versions. Thanks to that, you can opt for stronger performances or better fuel economy.
Exterior Changes
The 2021 Ford Explorer will introduce small visual changes. The upcoming SUV comes with a refreshed design and most of the things are a carryover. Small upgrades include a longer hood and a more pronounced sloping roof design. The front fascia will get small modifications. Headlights are looking clearer now and the front grille is slightly wider.
However, all of the significant upgrades will happen under the shell. The 2021 Explorer will suffer a small dimensional change. Switching from body-on-frame to unibody architecture will provide a better ride quality. The same platform underpins the new Lincoln Aviator model. As a result, new Explorer is 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor.
Interior Details
Blue Oval manufacturer will introduce a lot of new interior details. The forthcoming 2021 Ford Explorer comes with a minor layout change. Of course, the main reason is the new platform. The previous platform was so stretched in order to meet the SUVs dimensions. This time, everything looks so proportionally. However, some styling cues are looking strange. Wider side sills are not fitting to the rest of the cabin.
The seating position is now more natural and visibility is improved too. Interior looks practical and spacious. Cargo area is larger and the second and third row are offering ample legroom. On top of that, accessing the vehicle is much easier now. Blue Oval will also introduce more technology. Moreover, most of the new high-tech features are offered as standard. Even the lower trim levels are so well-equipped and comfort is also great. The dash still lacks some flair but it looks simple and modern.
Ford Explorer, Explorer ST and Explorer Hybrid Specs
The brand-new 2021 Ford Explorer comes with a 2.3-liter engine. This engine comes with a turbocharger and four cylinders. It seems like the perfect candidate as Explorer loosed some weight. This engine is standard and it produces 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic gearbox is in the offer too. Some reports are suggesting an all-new 10-speed transmission. If you want better fuel economy, Ford offers the Explorer Hybrid model.
On the other hand, if you seek more power, Explorer ST is available. The hybrid model delivers slightly over 300 horses while ST generates 400 horsepower. Another significant change for 2021 Explorer is switching to a rear-wheel-drive system. All-wheel-drive setup is optional on the regular gasoline version. However, Explorer ST offers AWD configuration as standard.
2021 Ford Explorer Price and Release Date
The price of the new 2021 Ford Explorer will be slightly increased. The price will start at around $35,000 or slightly above. On the other hand, the range-topping Platinum model is priced at $55,000.
The hybrid model will cost around $45,000 and Explorer ST $60,000. Ford’s newest mid-size crossover SUV will go on sale in the last quarter of 2020.
