If the rumors are true, a new 2021 Ford GT will become a high-performance all-electric crossover. This is just speculation at the moment. However, the story fits in Ford’s plan to electrify all of its vehicles. Now, if the rumors are true, the new GT will become a track-capable electric crossover. Blue Oval will dub its new model as a super-CUV.
A crossover body style with amazing performances. Interestingly but not surprisingly, North American markets have grown by 29 percent when it comes to sales of crossovers and SUVs. The same trend will surely continue in the future. For that reason, Ford will deliver a new 2021 GT with drastic changes.
Super-CUV Segment is Becoming a Thing
Ford is turning attention to high-performance vehicles. Moreover, the focus is on crossovers and SUVs. The 2021 Ford GT could be the perfect example. This exclusive super-car is dropping its sales. The whole world is now attracted to crossovers and SUVs. For that reason, most of the automakers are turning attention to this particular category.
As you probably know, Blue Oval is introducing the all-new Edge ST model. On top of that, the Explorer ST variant is set to launch in the near future. However, those two models will still use a conventional gasoline engine. The 2021 GT will be an all-electric vehicle.
Furthermore, GT will be a crossover in the future. Ford will also introduce a Mustang-inspired Mach 1 crossover. This model will also get an all-electric powertrain. Whatsoever, Mach 1 is also a high-performance version. It is easy to realize what is Ford trying to do here. A high-performance Super-CUV segment is becoming a thing.
Powertrain Details
According to numerous reports, a new 2021 Ford GT will deliver a 540-hp electric motor. This motor/generator is mounted ahead of the rear axle and it sends power to the rear wheels. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox is in the offer as well. We still don’t know the torque figures but we can expect an impressive rating.
Because of that, Blue Oval will modulate torque deliver via a control module. An 80-kWh Lithium-ion battery will provide 320 miles of driving range on a full charge. Ford is targeting 230-mph top speed. Moreover, the 2021 GT will reach from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds. You may like the idea of an electric crossover or not. However, you can’t argue against these impressive figures.
Regular GT Super-Car To Arrive in Limited Numbers
The forthcoming 2021 Ford GT will continue with its production. Of course, we are now talking about the iconic super-car. Ford said this model will be available once again but in limited numbers. Whatsoever, only 1350 examples will be on sale.
Furthermore, applications already started. Blue Oval claims that there are already over 6,500 applications. That will leave plenty of unhappy potential buyers. Visually and mechanically, the new GT will largely remain. Ford won’t introduce any type of changes or performance improvements.
Price and Release Date
The price is a complete mystery for now. No one knows what could be the price of the all-new 2021 Ford GT all-electric crossover. If Ford has a goal to compete against Tesla, we can expect a price that starts around $80,000. On the other hand, a regular GT car will cost over $400,000. New company’s electric crossover will hit the dealerships in the second half of 2020.
