Ford will introduce a brand-new electric crossover. It is the 2021 Ford Mach E. This name isn’t official yet, but it is the most likely outcome. Mach E will arrive with the Mustang-inspired design and it will offer an astonishing driving range. Whatsoever, Ford promises over 300 miles on a single charge.
The upcoming crossover will hit the roads later next year. Blue Oval offers both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive setups. Thanks to its close relationship with the Mustang, this crossover will look aggressive and sporty. The price will start below 50,000 and this model will be more affordable than Tesla’s Model Y.
New Platform
Installing new drivetrain isn’t easy at all. Installing all-electric drivetrain is even harder, especially because the vehicle needs a new architecture. For that reason, the 2021 Ford Mach E will get an all-new platform. However, speculations about the Mustang’s platform are false. Mach E will most likely get an all-new and unique architecture. On top of that, Ford plans to move its all global models onto five platforms. This new architecture is one of them. Moreover, new underpinnings will be present in the company’s new models. Thanks to that, Mach E will accommodate two electric motors and a battery pack.
2021 Mach E – Exterior Looks Very Modern
As we already wrote, the forthcoming 2021 Ford Mach E will be Mustang-inspired. Some parts of the exterior will look unique. However, most of the body will deploy Mustang’s styling cues. Of course, new features are a must for this modern crossover. Some parts are looking very aggressive and sporty. The result is an attractive all-electric crossover that looks really futuristic.
On the other hand, we can expect some cues to be borrowed from the Ford Explorer SUV. Of course, Mach E will be smaller than the Explorer. Some parts such as the rear part are a mystery. Speculations are suggesting a hatchback-like rear design. The 2021 Mach E will arrive with higher ground clearance and the fastback roofline design. New wheels, bumpers, and optional spoilers are all available. Because of all-electric drivetrain, Mach E won’t have the front grille.
Impressive Interior Details
Just like the exterior design, the interior also hides plenty of details. Most of the cabin is a complete mystery. Stuff such as the dashboard and the center stack will be very similar to the Mustangs. Surely, Ford will deliver unique details, no doubt about it. The gear shifter is not in the offer at all. Center console will sit higher and Ford promised simple interior layout.
The new infotainment system and new features will be available as standard. New and larger displays with the better interface are also in the offer. A flat-bottom steering wheel is standard, along with the Alcantara upholstery. Thanks to the numerous trim levels, the 2021 Ford Mach E can look very luxurious and premium. However, even the base model provides enough luxury.
Mileage, Performance, Configurations
This is perhaps the most interesting category. The 2021 Ford Mach E will be an all-electric crossover. The new platform is now able to accommodate two electric motors/generators and a battery pack. Electric motors are placed upfront and in the rear. For that reason, the all-wheel-drive setup will be optional.
Mach E will deploy a rear-wheel-drive system as standard. A 100-kWh battery pack will provide over 300 miles of driving range on a single charge. Exact engine specs are not available yet. However, we are convinced that all-electric powertrain will produce over 300 horsepower.
2021 Ford Mach E Price and Release Date
Ford’s new all-electric crossover will cost around $40,000. Blue Oval clearly has a plan to compete with Tesla’s Model Y. Offering a more affordable price is just a beginning. The 2021 Ford Mach E will also compete against Kia Niro EV and Hyundai Kona Electric. The all-new crossover will hit the dealerships in the second half of 2020.
