First teased in 2018, Baby Bronco SUV has been a subject of numerous speculations. Finally, the model is official, and it will arrive as the 2021 Ford Maverick. Logically, no one expected for “Baby Bronco” name to become official, but Maverick is the name that was one of the most likely outcomes. This model will be very similar to the Ford Escape, but it will look boxier. Moreover, the Maverick won’t offer great off-road ability at all. It will borrow a couple of Bronco’s touches.
On top of that, this SUV will be smaller than its Bronco sibling, and it will share underpinnings with the Escape/Kuga crossover. Maverick is the name, and this model will arrive with a standard AWD system. You can also expect a couple of exciting features and cues, so let’s find out what Blue Oval’s newest model has to offer.
2021 Maverick Welcomes Escape-Like Exterior Design
As many reports suggested, the new 2021 Ford Maverick will be very similar to the Ford Escape/Kuga model. However, Maverick will look boxier and more rugged. Moreover, this model will share a platform with the Escape model as well. Thanks to that, two models are very similar, both design-wise and mechanically. Unlike regular Bronco, Maverick won’t be a hardcore off-roader.
Undoubtedly, the approaching model will look very unique, however, we don’t know the exact design. So far, only a couple of leaked photos are available. Still, the same pictures are not showing the complete vehicle, but only some parts of it. For instance, the front part will host “Bronco” letterings between the headlights. Headlights are oval-shaped and are very similar to the Wrangler’s headlight units.
Interior Details
To this moment, we barely know anything about the interior details. New 2021 Ford Maverick will also mimic the Escape model with its recognizable floating center screen. Moreover, this crossover will borrow dials that will be positioned in the same manner as in the Escape crossover.
On top of that, a digital instrument cluster is in the works, and you can expect a new rotary transmission selector. On the other hand, Maverick will surely provide unique and modern touches.
Two Available Engine Options
Most likely, the 2021 Ford Maverick will share powertrains with the Escape model. According to various reports, there should be two engine options. The first one is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost that provides 181 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. The second one is a larger 2.0-liter displacement that generates 250 hp.
Both engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It remains to be seen if the Escape’s hybrid system will become available in 2021 Maverick model. On the other hand, a standard AWD system is very certain.
2021 Ford Maverick Price and Release Date
If the latest available information is correct, the 2021 Ford Maverick will go into production this August. Most likely, Blue Oval will launch its “Baby Bronco” model at some point in 2021. As for the pricing details, Ford is quiet on this matter.
