Ford’s leaked documents are showing some good news for all Mondeo fans. The 2021 Ford Mondeo is not dead. Instead, we will see a new-gen model. Moreover, documents are hinting at a hybrid model as well. According to the latest reports, Blue Oval will launch its new Mondeo model in early 2021. With only 30,000 deliveries in the first three quarters of 2018 in Europe, Mondeo was really struggling.
To compare, VW Passat and Skoda Superb recorded 90,600 and 51,700 sales. Clearly, the changes are for the better, and new 2021 Mondeo will represent a real refreshment in European markets. We are still waiting for official confirmation from Ford. Until that happens, here’s what we can expect from the new-gen Mondeo.
2021 Mondeo Exterior Facelift
The all-new 2021 Ford Mondeo will arrive with a significant facelift. You can expect a lot of exterior upgrades. For a start, this model will get a new rear suspension. According to leaked documents, Mondeo will ride on a C2 modular platform. The same architecture underpins the new Focus model as well. However, exact redesign details are not available at the moment.
We can surely anticipate new Monde with numerous and very drastic exterior changes. Let’s say a new grille and headlights are a must. Moreover, we don’t know how many trim levels will Ford delivers. Titanium version is very probable, but we don’t know if the ST variant will be in the offer.
Interior Redesign
The interior will surely suffer plenty of improvements as well. For a start, the new 2021 Ford Mondeo will get raised suspension. Thanks to that, the interior will provide more space than ever before. Leaked documents are showing Mondeo as a slightly wider model with the protruding wheels and a more SUV-like stance.
What can we expect from the new Mondeo? First of all, new displays and upholstery. The dashboard will also suffer a couple of refinements, and the Blue Oval will provide larger storage space. Upper trim levels will gain new interior color schemes and more luxury.
New Hybrid Option
It isn’t official yet, but the approaching 2021 Ford Mondeo will get a new rear suspension. Moreover, Ford didn’t use a similar layout in Europe for years now. That means we can expect a new chassis that will be more similar to Volvo’s XC90 model. Moreover, it is a clear suggestion of a hybrid powertrain. Ford could offer 2.5-liter output in combination with an electric motor and the battery pack. A similar setup can be found in current S-Max and Galaxy models.
Moreover, the Kuga/Escape crossover will gain the very same configuration. Some reports are writing about new 2021 Mondeo as a raised wagon that will rival Subaru Outback in the U.S. On the other hand, we don’t know what will happen to the current engine lineup. The lineup includes a 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine and a 2.0-liter gasoline mill.
2021 Ford Mondeo Price and Release Date
To make this more simple, the upcoming 2021 Ford Mondeo will be the new-gen model. This model is certain for Europe, and it will feature a hybrid powertrain. On the other hand, a model for the United States is still a mystery.
The sales will start after Ford presents its new model at the Geneva Motor Show next March. That means the new wagon will go on sale in the first quarter of 2021. The price is not available, but don’t expect anything above $25,000.
