The 2022 Ford E-Transit is coming to the markets later this year. We already wrote about this model and its brand-new all-electric powertrain. However, Ford didn’t launch the 2021MY as the Coronavirus is still present. Transit is a full-size cargo van and electric power will provide a lot of benefits. First of all, this model will be more powerful and more efficient.
Secondly, E-Transit will provide extra cargo space, unlike the regular Transit model. Still, popular “frunk” won’t be on offer, as some reports previously suggested. This comes as a surprise, but E-Transit will still offer a lot of cool stuff. Here’s everything we know about this electric van, including its design, interior and powertrain specs.
Front Trunk and Spare Tire Location
Blue Oval surprised us with the all-new 2022 Ford E-Transit and its features. Nowadays, electric vehicles, mostly pickup trucks, are offering the front trunk or “frunk”. This is a very practical way to provide additional cargo space, as electric vehicles are not hiding a powertrain under the hood. However, E-Transit won’t offer a front trunk. And while this is a surprise, the fact the E-Transit van offers massive cargo space, this decision is somewhat reasonable.
Another interesting thing about this electric van is its spare tire location. This location is different than the models powered by conventional engines such as gasoline or diesel. Instead of a mounted tire behind the rear wheels, the spare tire is placed near the front. This is another reasonable move by Ford, as the battery pack is placed beneath the cargo area.
2022 E-Transit Specs
Again, the 2022 Ford E-Transit will slightly depart from the regular Transit van. The electric variant will be around 600 pounds heavier, thanks to the larger 67-kWh battery pack. Moreover, the electric model comes with heavy-duty semi-trailing arm suspension, while the regular 3.5-liter V6 version doesn’t. Ford offers three roof heights and three different body lengths. You can choose between cargo, cutaway, and chassis cab configurations.
According to Blue Oval manufacturer will provide a payload rating of 3,800 pounds. The all-electric powertrain develops 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, this van will provide 126 miles of all-electric driving range on a single charge. Both AC and DC fast charging options are available, so you can plug your van into 120-volt and 240-volt outlets. The brand-new Ford Charge Station can charge an E-Transit van in eight hours.
Design and Dimensions
In terms of design, the new 2022 Ford E-Transit will look like its original concept. We don’t expect to see major differences between the concept and the production model. The cargo van will offer a hexagonal grille with chrome bars and very modern LED headlights. The power-sliding doors will be optional in the base trim level. E-Transit will wear a very recognizable boxy shape and it will be 217.8 inches long.
2022 Ford E-Transit Price, Release Date
The all-new 2022 Ford E-Transit will cost around $45,000, although some reports are predicting a slightly lower price than that. Ford will provide an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty and the production will begin at the Ford Kansas City Plant. The sales will begin later in 2021, probably in November.
