Third-Gen 2022 Ford EcoSport Redesigned

To this date, Ford used the EcoSport nameplate on two occasions. The first-gen was produced and sold in Brazil from 2003 to 2012 and it was based on the Fiesta model. The 2022 Ford EcoSport is the third-gen model and it is also a subcompact crossover SUV. Despite its Brazilian roots, EcoSport is a global model, which means Ford sells it all around the world.

It is an affordable crossover but it still lacks behind the competition. For an instance, some features such as automatic climate control are still optional. Hopefully, the Blue Oval manufacturer will deliver important updates and fix the biggest issues for the customers. New 2022 EcoSport model will go on sale later next year.

2022 EcoSport Redesign

The upcoming 2022 Ford EcoSport will hit the roads once again. This time, we expect major cosmetic changes. To this moment, we’ve seen the rendering photos but spy shots are not available yet. New generation will introduce various visual upgrades and we believe this crossover has so much to offer. Unlike the Bronco Sport model, EcoSport will take a different path in terms of styling. The goal is to rival models such as Chevy Trax, Honda HR-V, or Mazda CX-3. For that reason, EcoSport will depart from Ford’s original design language.

The Blue Oval automaker will introduce new exterior colors and the front fascia will look significantly different. The styling is more desirable and EcoSport crossover will also look more adventurous. The reason why the EcoSport model will depart from the Bronco Sport is obvious. Ford can’t afford to sell two subcompact models that are wearing almost the same design. EcoSport will compete in the B-segment so we should expect something new and unique.

Interior Overhaul

The all-new 2022 Ford EcoSport needs to get various improvements, especially on the inside. As we said, this crossover lacks more standard equipment. For that reason, Ford will probably offer automatic climate control as standard, along with the SYNC3 infotainment system. Another issue is the rear space, or more precisely, rear legroom. The cargo area is small as well and the interior is full of cheap plastic materials.

While the five-seat layout remains, we expect from Ford to improve all of the mentioned areas. A smarter cabin arrangement and more upright materials will be a huge improvement. An 8-inch touchscreen will sit atop the center stack and EcoSport will get more soft-touch surfaces. Lastly, we expect to see more driver-assistance aids.

Engine Specs, Fuel Economy

Unfortunately, nothing will change under the hood. That means the 2022 Ford EcoSport will arrive with the same two powertrain options. The first one is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with 123 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque. While not so powerful, this unit delivers 28 mpg combined.

The optional 2.0-liter four-cylinder is capable of producing 166 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. This engine is rated at 26 mpg combined, but it offers an AWD system. Both variants are using the stop/start system and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

2022 Ford EcoSport Price and Release Date

At this moment, the EcoSport crossover starts at $20,000. However, the 2022 Ford EcoSport will cost more, thanks to the latest upgrades. We believe the subcompact crossover will now start at around $21,500. Ford said there will be small changes in the trim level lineup, but the Titanium version will remain the range-topping trim. Lastly, Ford will launch its new model in the second half of 2021.
