Ford Escape model is popular like never before. However, what is happening with the 2022 Ford Escape ST Line? This model is currently not available in the United States. However, it is in Europe, under the name Ford Kuga ST. Some reports are saying the 2022MY will have Escape ST Line variant, at some point.
However, this is far from official. The ST is Ford’s well-known treatment, transforming a regular model into a sportier high-performance version. Without further ado, let’s check all the stories and rumors about this model.
Ford Escape ST Line Exterior
To this moment, Ford only said „it would be a great idea“ about the 2022 Ford Escape ST Line. That’s about it, so we are still waiting to see if this model will arrive at all. There are no spy photos, which is probably a clear suggestion that this model won’t happen this year. Anyway, the ST models are easy to recognize. By delivering black accents and a familiar shade of blue exterior color, ST models are so easy to spot.
While we don’t know that much about this model, we know a lot about Kuga mode, which is basically Ford Escape sold outside North America. This model comes with slightly more ground clearance and larger 18-inch alloy wheels. It looks more aggressive than the regular Kuga and it also comes with a standard hands-free power tailgate. Blue Oval also provides LED reflector headlights, premium Sensico sports seats, red contrast stitching, a premium sound system, and other upright amenities.
2022 Ford Escape ST Line Engine Specs
The 2022 Escape will offer the same powertrain options as the outgoing model. That includes engines such as 1.5-liter turbo-three, 2.0-liter turbo-four, and plug-in hybrid variants. As the 2022 Ford Escape ST Line is a high-performance model, we expect more power than the Escape SUV has now. Still, the optional 2.0-liter engine provides 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The Escape ST Line could get the same engine, but Ford will surely re-tune it so we expect around 300 horses.
An eight-speed automatic transmission would be standard if this is the case. The regular Escape model comes with a standard FWD system, but the ST Line model will surely deliver a standard AWD setup. The most likely candidate is the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with 295 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Some speculations are also saying the Escape ST will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain. We don’t know if this is a possibility, so we’ll have to wait for official details.
Overall Verdict
Ford admitted the 2022 Ford Escape ST Line would be a great idea. However, we don’t know if this model will happen ever again. Moreover, the Explorer ST SUV was a great idea. This model manages good sales, thanks to numerous upgrades and a potent 400-hp engine.
ST Line would deliver slightly less power, but the idea of the high-performance SUV with smaller dimensions, higher roof, and additional ground clearance is just amazing. In Europe, Ford Kuga ST is available, and Escape ST Line could borrow a lot of stuff from it. Unfortunately, it seems like this model is not in Blue Oval’s plans in the near future. For the moment, Explorer ST and Edge ST are the only options in the United States.
