The electric pickup truck segment will introduce some great models next year. F-150 EV is not the first model that will arrive but it will be one of the best options. The 2022 Ford F-150 will get its first-ever electric variant. This model will be so impressive and it should offer amazing performances. The sales should begin in mid-2022, right after the new GMC Hummer EV.
On top of that, Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck models should arrive in the meantime. Thanks to that, we have a completely new all-electric pickup truck segment. So far, we know a lot of details, and besides the electric version, the F-150 hybrid model is also available. Add gasoline and diesel powertrain options and the F-150 is the most complete pickup truck ever.
Performances
The upcoming 2022 Ford F-150 now offers gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and all-electric powertrain options. As we expect, F-150 Electric will be the most powerful model and the most powerful F-150 ever. The dual-motor setup will provide incredible performances, with more horses, torque, and better acceleration. For example, Tesla Cybertruck will produce around 690 hp and 825 lb-ft of torque.
The F-150 EV won’t be far from that. However, Rivian R1T pickup will reportedly produce 750 horses and 829 lb-ft of twisting power. There is the all-new GMC Hummer EV that will generate 1,000 horsepower. No doubt, this battle will be very exciting and this segment will continue to grow in the future.
Ford F-150 EV – Driving Range
For a start, Tesla said the Cybertruck will offer from 250 to 500 miles of range on a single charge. The question is if the 2022 Ford F-150 Electric can compete with that. Reportedly, Ford expects above 200 miles for the base model. However, we don’t know how much miles will offer the range-topping model. The arriving Rivian R1T will provide from 230 to 400 miles.
On the other hand, those figures are not official yet, so everything is possible at this moment. The manufacturers are working on improvements to the battery pack and their electric motors. By the time all these trucks arrive, we should expect even greater figures.
Towing Capacity
The biggest improvement that an electric powertrain can deliver is the towing capacity. Yes, the acceleration is also significantly improved, when comparing the 2022 Ford F-150 Electric to the regular F-150. Again, Tesla Cybertruck will be able to tow 14,000 pounds. On top of that, Rivian estimates its R1T pickup to offer up to 11,000 pounds.
From what we heard, the new F-150 will arrive with a towing capacity that is rated at around 12,000 pounds. Ford also promised new stuff such as receiving over-the-air updates and a larger trunk. Thanks to that, you can carry more pounds of gear with ease.
2022 Ford F-150 Release Date, Price
The brand-new 2022 Ford F-150 will cost closer to Tesla Cybertruck that starts at $39,000. In our opinion, this a big win for both Ford and Tesla as the Rivian R1T pickup will cost almost $70,000. On top of that, GMC Hummer EV will cost above that. As for the release date, all models will arrive at some point next year, possibly in the fall.
