The upcoming 2022 Ford Focus is still one year away. For that reason, some things will remain a mystery for another couple of months. However, the latest reports are saying that Ford has canceled the Focus RS model, that was supposed to arrive in 2022. We don’t know what will happen with the ST variant as either.
The 2022 Focus will firstly arrive in Europe and it will probably get a mid-cycle facelift. Besides exterior changes, the interior should also gain a couple of refreshments. We believe the Blue Oval automaker will deliver the same engine lineup, including hybrid powertrain options.
2022 Focus Facelift
The upcoming 2022 Ford Focus will not get significant exterior changes. From what we know, Focus will keep its current shape and size. The hood looks sporty with attractive lines and even the side profile comes with a sportier vibe. On the other hand, the front fascia will get some sort of facelift. The Blue Oval automaker has incorporated more attractive headlights with a new LED strip.
In addition, the front grille is more attractive and it looks closer to the grille on the RS model. Other notable improvements include new optional wheels and the rear part that will probably introduce a new bumper.
Focus Offers Numerous Engine Options
Under the hood, new 2022 Ford Focus will offer various engine options. According to latest reports, this model will introduce two hybrid powertrain options. The first one is a combination of a 1.0-liter EcoBoost and a 48-volt electric motor. This mild-hybrid setup will provide 125 hp and 153 hp. More importantly, Focus will deliver up to 57 mpg combined.
The 1.5-liter EcoBoost is gone, but 1.5-liter EcoBlue engine is available and it will produce up to 118 horsepower. You can also get an optional 2.0-liter EcoBlue with 150 horses. As for the gasoline engine, 1.0-liter with 123 hp is available. Lastly, Focus will arrive with both 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmission.
New-Gen Focus RS Canceled
The forthcoming 2022 Ford Focus RS won’t happen. The newest reports are saying that Ford has no plans to build the fourth-gen Focus RS. The reason for that is because Blue Oval can’t develop a high-performance hybrid powertrain at the moment.
Fair enough. Ford said that the increased CO2 taxation and the high cost of developing Focus RS are the two biggest reasons. Thanks to that, Focus ST will become the range-topping trim level. However, Ford did not exclude the chance to offer Focus RS with hybrid powertrain in the future.
2022 Ford Focus Release Date and Price
The price of the new 2022 Ford Focus will once again start below $20,000. The base model will probably cost around $18,000. On the other hand, Focus Active and the range-topping Focus ST will cost around $30,000.
This model will hit the markets at some point in 2021, most likely in the last quarter of the year. As we said, Ford won’t offer the Focus RS variant in 2022.
