The Mustang is one of the most famous nameplates in the automotive industry. The sixth-generation is slowly about to end. This means the 2022 Ford Mustang will be the new-gen model. The latest reports are strongly suggesting this model to happen later in 2021. Moreover, Mustang will get the first mid-cycle refresh in 2025. The seventh-gen model will remain in production until 2030, reportedly. Blue Oval is currently silent, but reliable sources are already writing about possible novelties.
For a start, Mustang will switch to the same platform that underpins Lincoln Aviator and Ford Explorer SUVs. This means the all-new Mustang will be larger and it will provide more interior room. However, the big news for a new generation is an all-wheel-drive system that is compatible with the new platform.
2022 Mustang Spy Shots
This is a very interesting topic as we saw a mysterious Mustang GT prototype a few weeks ago. The 2022 Ford Mustang is happening, no doubt about that. However, it is interesting because it is too early for spy shots. However, various rumors are saying that Blue Oval is testing either new brakes or engine. The reason is the visible square wheel and brand-new all-season tires that are easy to spot.
Our first thought is that this has to do something with the new Mach-E crossover, but that’s not the case. Some reports are suggesting a spied Mach 1 model that is based on the Mustang GT. However, lug-mounted sensors and some other parts are strongly suggesting the next-gen Mustang, at least with the V8 engine under the hood.
2022 Ford Mustang Rumors
News about the new platform opened up a lot of rumors regarding the all-new 2022 Ford Mustang. A new generation will ride on the same platform that underpins SUVs such as Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator. As a result, the new Mustang will be slightly larger. This means the interior will offer better legroom and a larger cargo area. The new architecture is compatible with the all-wheel-drive system. Now, the rumors are already predicting an electrified V8 powertrain. The same speculations are suggesting the ICE will power the rear wheels, while the electric motor will send power to the front.
We don’t know what will happen to the turbo-four engine. Most likely, this engine will remain as Ford offers both coupe and convertible Mustangs. As for the exterior design, the new Mustang will follow other brand’s models so we expect to see another evolutionary design. The interior will offer a lot of equipment and Mustang is available with both left and right-hand drive.
Future Plans
As we said, Mustang’s sixth-generation is present since 2014. New-gen 2022 Ford Mustang will go on later in 2021. It will be the seventh-generation Mustang and we expect a lot of changes. Ford plans to deliver the first mid-cycle facelift in 2025. Thanks to that, this new generation will be present until 2030.
As before, Mustang will directly rival Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro models. The new platform will force Blue Oval to deliver drastic changes and to introduce more novelties. However, more info will become available in the coming months.
