The upcoming 2022 Ford Mustang GT will be the next-gen model. This aggressive muscle car will deliver significant upgrades. One of the most notable changes is a hybrid powertrain option. This is a huge step for Blue Oval, as Mustang will depart from its supercharged V8 engine and rear-wheel-drive setup. Of course, you can always choose this configuration but a hybrid setup will surely attract a lot of interest.
It will be interesting to hear the sound of a hybrid Mustang if nothing. Besides that, we expect to see numerous design changes and interior updates. This model will hit the dealerships at some point next year.
2022 Mustang GT Redesign
First spy shots are already available. The 2022 Ford Mustang GT will wear a refreshed design as this is the new-generation model. However, Blue Oval won’t deliver something completely new. After all, this is an iconic car with a recognizable appearance. As before, Mustang GT will look aggressive and incredibly sporty. Heavy camouflage perfectly hides most of the exterior parts.
Some reports are saying that the Ford is only testing a new hybrid powertrain and new brakes. We can spot new all-season tires and new wheels. However, design changes are hard to spot. We believe that the new model will look closer to the Mustang Mach-E crossover. If that happens, the new model will look more futuristic.
Hybrid Powertrain Specs
Blue Oval is preparing an all-new hybrid powertrain with a standard all-wheel-drive setup. It is a dual-motor configuration that works in a combination with a familiar V8 gasoline engine. The engine will power the rear axle, as before. However, electric motors will power the front wheels and creating an AWD system.
Thanks to that, we could be seeing torque vectoring and improved handling. A hybrid powertrain won’t be the only choice. The 2022 Ford Mustang GT will stick to its V8 engine and we expect another EcoBoost unit for the entry-level model.
New Platform
The 2022 Ford Mustang GT will ride on a new platform. The same platform underpins the new Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs. Both models are offering hybrid powertrain options, so it makes perfect sense. Performance specs are not available yet and it is too early to discuss the power of the new Mustang. The 2022MY will arrive with slightly longer dimensions.
Thanks to that, the interior room will be more generous. As we said, this new architecture deploys a standard AWD system. Despite the new platform, a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 460 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque will be in offer.
2022 Ford Mustang GT Launch Date, Price
The 2022 Ford Mustang GT is once again available in convertible and fastback variants. It is the next-gen model so the price will increase. Still, we are waiting to see all of the changes and upgrades. For sure, the new model will surely cost above $40,000. The sales will begin at some point next year, most likely in the first quarter. A hybrid powertrain is the biggest addition, but we also expect to see the significant exterior and interior upgrades.
