According to the latest information, the seventh-gen Mustang is on its way. The 2022 Ford Mustang S650 is ready for drastic changes and upgrades. A few years ago, you can find the news saying the next-gen model will arrive in 2026. However, now is official and we will see the new Mustang as soon as 2022. Hardcore fans will hardly say goodbye to S550 generation and we can understand that.
However, the time has come and Mustang needs further refreshments. The S650 model will use the same or similar powertrain that you can find in the new Mach-E crossover. The production will continue in Flat Rock plant, Michigan. Some things are already familiar but most of the vehicle is still quite a mystery.
2022 Ford Mustang S650 Will Get New Platform
According to a couple of inside stories, Ford delayed the new Mustang because of its CD6 platform. The problem was how to base the new 2022 Ford Mustang S650 on the CD6 platform. This architecture is relatively new and it underpins models such as Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator. Moving to a modular platform is good for plenty of reasons. However, that also means the all-new Mustang will be larger than its predecessor.
Currently, Mustang is 188.3 inches long and it rides on a 107.1-inch long wheelbase. Clearly, the vehicle’s weight could be the key. For example, the current Mustang GT is 3,743 pounds heavy and that is too much. Another reason for a new platform is a hybrid powertrain. That also includes the all-wheel-drive system. Basically, Blue Oval is now doing what GM has done with its Alpha platform and the Camaro model.
Renderings
As we said, we don’t have any specific info about the exterior design. Ford could deliver a complete redesign and offer something new However, many fans will be disappointed if Blue Oval creates something that is not similar to the current Mustang. So far, only renderings are available.
We must admit that these photos are looking very real. However, the same photos are far from realistic. Renderings are about fantasies and futuristic designs so we can understand that. Still, we believe that Ford will stick to its roots, Mustang roots. See it for yourself.
Engine Speculations
Almost seven years ago, Ford introduced the sixth-gen Mustang with a 3.7-liter Cyclone V6 engine. After that, in 2017 the fans had an opportunity to see a 5.0-liter V8 Coyote. Moreover, Mustang was available with a 5.2-liter Voodoo V8 and Predator V8 displacements. In the future, the 2022 Ford Mustang S650 will ride on some sort of electrification. So far, Blue Oval patented a hybrid V8 version that works with two electric motors.
According to Ford, the new powertrain will provide more power and even more low-end torque than the current Coyote V8. The most likely outcome is for next-gen Mustang to borrow a powertrain from the Mustang Mach-E crossover. No doubts, seventh-generation will arrive with a lot of power. The question is just what sort of power?
2022 Ford Mustang S650 Price and Release Date
The price of the seventh-gen 2022 Ford Mustang S650 is not available at the moment. Of course, a new model will cost more than its predecessor, no doubt about it. However, don’t expect a huge price increase.
After all, Chevrolet could phase out its Camaro model, while Dodge Challenger doesn’t manage such good sales. As for the release date, this pony car will hit the dealerships later in 2021.
