The upcoming 2022 Ford Ranger will be the next-gen model. Thanks to that, the mid-size pickup truck will arrive with significant upgrades. Interestingly, the new Ranger will ride on the same platform that underpins the Volkswagen Amarok pickup. Ford is known for building impressive trucks and the F-150 model is the finest example.
However, Ranger dominates the mid-size segment and this model is sold globally. Depending on the market, Ranger can be had with various powertrain options. However, the highlight of the 2022 Ranger will be its plug-in hybrid variant. Ranger will also hit the dealerships in the United States and here’s everything you need to know about this mid-size pickup truck.
2022 Ranger Gets a Redesign
The forthcoming 2022 Ford Ranger is one year away. This model will continue to offer a handsome look and modern styling. Ford knows how to build a durable pickup truck and Ranger is one of the best examples. The next-gen Ranger will arrive with a redesign. That includes numerous exterior refreshments. The front fascia will suffer the most but we don’t know if Ranger will continue to offer its recognizable hexagonal grille.
A new grille is a possibility but we can’t say if that part will change. Both headlights and taillights will be reshaped and we expect new exterior colors as well. Once again, Ranger will offer standard 16-inch wheels on its base trim level. Bodywork will be improved and upper trim levels will gain more standard and optional features.
Interior Features
The interior of the 2022 Ford Ranger looks very stylish and modern. New model will introduce more tech and comfort will be improved too. Tech-wise, Ranger will offer a brand-new SYNC4 infotainment system and a 12.8-inch vertical touchscreen on the center console. Thanks to that, wireless is offered as standard, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrations.
Another 10.25-inch screen is available and it sits ahead of the driver’s sight. Thanks to that, Ranger will feature a similar layout that you can find inside the all-new Mustang Mach-E crossover. Of course, Ranger will gain more refreshments but it is perhaps too early to speculate about them.
Engine Lineup Looks Promising
New 2022 Ford Ranger will introduce a plug-in hybrid powertrain option. A 2.3-liter turbocharged engine comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission and it works with an electric motor. The total output provides 362 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. That means Ranger will depart from the Explorer and Escape models and their hybrid setups. Besides that, Ranger comes with two diesel options that are available in Australia and Europe.
We are talking about a 2.0-liter twin-turbo with 210 horses and a larger 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo with 250 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. From what we heard, the current 3.2-liter five-cylinder unit won’t be available from now on. Lastly, there is a high-performance Ranger Raptor model. This version comes with a 3.0-liter engine that replaces the current twin-turbo four-cylinder output.
2022 Ford Ranger Price and Release Date
The price of the next-gen 2022 Ford Ranger will start at about $30,000. That means the price is higher than before, which makes sense, given the number of updates. Moreover, Raptor trim will cost around $40,000. The sales will begin in the last quarter of 2021 and more details will become available in the coming months.
