Ford is going to add a new small pickup truck to its lineup. It seems like the rumors are true and the 2023 Ford Courier will hit the roads later this year. However, instead of looking like the clearly car-based Ford Courier coupe utility that is sold in other markets, the unibody pickup will have a more rugged look to fit American tastes, like the Ford F-150 model.
The Courier will reportedly deliver a standard FWD system and good fuel efficiency. However, no one knows if this small pickup truck will arrive under a different name. Some reports are also predicting the “Ford Ranchero” moniker. Anyway, Courier is on the way, and here’s what to expect.
Ford Courier Renderings
New 2023 Ford Courier is based on the company’s front-wheel-drive compact car platform. It will sit below the mid-size Ranger in Ford’s truck lineup, and it will also fill in the gaps left by the Fiesta and Focus models. In terms of exterior design, the new small truck won’t be cute at all. Expect it to look like a mix of Bronco Sport and Ranger models, with a tall, blocky front end and a truck-like shape.
The result is a smaller unibody truck with a more aggressive approach. Of course, the Courier model will wear a recognizable design language with boxier shape and unique exterior paints. We also expect a couple of trim levels and possibly one sportier variant.
Interior Details
As we said before, it’s not clear which cab configurations of the new model will be available. A lot of people think that both single and double cab models will be on the market. If you buy the double-cab model, you’ll be able to fit adults in both rows, but we think it won’t be very close to what we’re used to. After all, the 2023 Ford Courier is a compact pickup. We think the new Hyundai Santa Cruz will be about the same size as the approaching Courier.
On the other hand, there are still no details about how the dashboard will look. There are a lot of good materials in the cabin, so we think it will look a lot like a crossover. There are a lot of features, including tech goodies, that should make the ride easier, but we also expect to see premium trim levels with more luxury.
Engine Rumors
Under the hood, the new 2023 Ford Courier will offer a standard 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine. On top of that, the new pickup will also provide an optional 2.0-liter turbo-four unit. Interestingly, the same engines can be found in the current Ford Escape crossover.
And while the standard powertrain will develop 180 horsepower, the optional engine should deliver up to 250 horses. We are waiting to hear official details, including transmission, fuel efficiency ratings, and towing capacity.
2023 Ford Courier Release Date, Price
From what we know, the forthcoming 2023 Ford Courier will cost between $20,000 and $25,000. The compact pickup truck will enter production in Ford’s plant in Mexico. The same factory will produce a new Bronco Sport model as well. The sales will begin later in 2022 or in the first quarter of 2023.
