The forthcoming 2023 Ford Expedition Timberline will arrive later this year, and it will introduce a couple of refreshments. Generally, the regular Expedition SUV is getting upgrades and the Timberline trim level will gain the same improvements. The 2022MY already received important updates, so the 2023MY will provide minor changes only.
Timberline is a new trim level, introduced last year, so the Expedition model now has above ten different versions. This unique variant provides off-road capability, with Raptor-like performances and class-leading ground clearance. However, this is not a rugged SUV with basic stuff, so the interior provides a lot of premium touches as well.
Ford Expedition Timberline Facelift
The 2023 Ford Expedition Timberline will receive minor updates only. We don’t expect a single dramatic upgrade for 2023MY. The Timberline trim level comes with enhanced exterior features, including a front grille and various orange accents. This model is slightly wider and adds 10.6 inches of ground clearance. As with any other off-road SUV, this one also provides underbody shields, skid plates, and 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler A/T tires.
If you didn’t know, the Timberline model replaced the previous FX4 Off-Road Package. Interestingly, the Expedition Timberline beats Jeep Wagoneer in terms of ground clearance, as it provides a higher ride height by 0.6 inches. Ford delivered impressive approach and departure angles, so this is one quite capable off-roader.
Interior Upgrades
For a start, the new 2023 Ford Expedition Timberline also has the same Trail Turn Assist feature as the new Ford Bronco, which makes it easier for the driver to make tight turns on the trail. Digital gauges are shown on a 12.4-inch screen that is behind the steering wheel. They show you everything from your speed to your mileage, as well as navigational hints and off-road data.
When you look at Expedition’s central dashboard, you can choose between a 12-inch or 15.5-inch touchscreen display, which is the largest in its class. The SYNC 4 system is housed in the touchscreen display. It allows you to connect to your smartphone and apps through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Ford’s new BlueCruise hands-free system will be available as well.
Towing Capacity, Transmission
Under the hood, the upcoming 2023 Ford Expedition Timberline comes with a powerful 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 unit. This gasoline engine is capable of producing 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. That is a lot of power, even for a full-size SUV.
However, it is also the class-leading engine in terms of power. This SUV has a towing capacity of 9,300 pounds, which is quite a lot. Blue Oval manufacturer will also provide a ten-speed automatic transmission, a four-wheel-drive system, and a two-speed transfer case.
2023 Ford Expedition Timberline Release Date, Price
The sales of the full-size 2023 Ford Expedition Timberline SUV will begin later this year. The price will start at around $67,000. To compare, the base trim level starts at $51,000 and the range-topping Platinum trim level at $80,000. This is a higher price than anyone would expect, as most of the experts predicted a price of about $60k.
