The forthcoming 2023 Ford Explorer is one of the segment’s largest and most reliable SUVs. This model features an attractive design, impressive towing capacity, and excellent handling. Additionally, it features a three-row seating arrangement with enough room for seven passengers. Furthermore, it is a synonym for reliability.
As with the previous generation, the new one is equipped with the latest in-car technology and a slew of driver assistance features. On top of that, this SUV is one of the few that provides up to four engine options. Unfortunately for the Explorer, it faces stiff competition from Asia, including Honda Pilot, Kia Telluride, and Hyundai Palisade.
2023 Explorer Changes and Packages
The 2023 Ford Explorer will gain a couple of improvements. This crossover will appear bolder, with visible upgrades, primarily on the front. Additionally, numerous packages are available, allowing you to customize this SUV to your needs. On XLT trim level, a Sport Appearance package is available, which includes attractive 20-inch aluminum wheels coated in Carbonized Gray paint.
On top of that, this package includes a mesh grille with Carbonized Gray accents and distinctive dual exhaust outlets. For off-road fans, the manufacturer offers an intriguing package with the new Timberline treatment. This model features a lifted suspension, all-terrain tires, and more rugged styling cues on the exterior. In general, regardless of which model you choose, you’ll get a one-of-a-kind family SUV.
Interior Upgrades
The new 2023 Ford Explorer’s interior will be significantly more functional and comfortable. This SUV has three rows of seats and plenty of room for passengers in the first two rows. Regrettably, the third row remains optimal for children. The Chevrolet Traverse and Volkswagen Atlas are comparable models, but the Traverse offers a higher level of comfort.
Tech-wise, Explorer includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. Moreover, you can upgrade to the Platinum or ST for a much larger 10.1-inch vertically oriented screen. Each model includes voice-activated navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system. Still, the changes are not so significant on the inside.
Engine Specs
The 2023 Ford Explorer won’t offer new engines. This implies that the engines will be identical to those found in the current model. The base variant is powered by a 2.3-liter turbo-four EcoBoost unit that produces 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a relatively new 10-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with rear-wheel drive (RWD). Additionally, an all-wheel-drive system is available.
In our opinion, the Explorer Hybrid is the best option. This variant offers a 3.3-liter V6 engine and an electric motor that develops 318 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of twists. Additionally, it retains a 10-speed automatic transmission and an option for all-wheel drive. The final engine powers the King Ranch, Platinum, and ST trim levels. These variants are available with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine with 365 hp in the base model and 400 hp in the ST.
2023 Ford Explorer Price, Release Date
