The forthcoming 2023 Ford Explorer Timberline will continue with the updates. The Timberline version will not gain further improvements. However, most of the changes on the base Explorer SUV will be applied to the Timberline model. The Timberline package is similar to the Raptor treatment in many ways.
On top of that, the Bronco SUV will offer a similar Badlands trim level. It basically improves the vehicle’s off-road ability, thanks to the numerous visual and mechanical upgrades. The 2023 Explorer will gain important refreshments. That includes styling updates, more equipment, new wheels, and new colors. Even the interior should gain more features and technologies.
Ford Explorer Timberline Upgrades
The Explorer model is a complete SUV. It offers everything from the base trim level, to the sporty ST version and luxury Platinum model. The 2023 Ford Explorer Timberline is an off-road SUV. Therefore, this model offers off-road suspension tuning. It also comes with additional ground clearance. This trim level will provide underbody skid plates and front tow hooks. Generally, the Timberline model will improve both off-roading and towing.
The styling is impressive, especially the unique front grille and the Performance auxiliary lights. An 18-inch aluminum black wheels are available as standard, like before. We should expect mild cosmetic upgrades, which will include new optional wheels and new colors. In case you don’t know, the mid-size Explorer SUV received a complete redesign in 2020. Therefore, significant changes will happen in the next two or three years.
Interior Features
As we said, the 2023 Ford Explorer Timberline will gain a couple of cabin upgrades as well. Mostly, Ford will focus on technology. We expect an updated infotainment system and more standard equipment. This is a good thing, as the Timberline trim level already provides a high level of comfort. This version provides a simulated leather upholstery with cloth accents.
Moreover, heated second-row seats and heated steering wheel are available as standard. Interestingly, the Timberline model is based on the XLT trim level, but it borrows some features from the more upright Limited model. That includes displays, sound system, and safety features.
EcoBoost Engine Specs
Under the hood, the next 2023 Ford Explorer Timberline will continue to use the same engine. It is a 2.3-liter gasoline engine producing 300 horsepower. On top of that, this EcoBoost unit delivers 310 lb-ft of torque. The AWD system will be standard once again. Generally, we don’t expect any sort of performance upgrades.
This SUV can tow up to 5320 pounds and it will also offer a Hill Descent Control system. Besides that, there is a standard limited-slip rear differential and a 10-speed automatic transmission. This SUV gets 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Lastly, Ford provides up to seven driving modes.
2023 Ford Explorer Timberline Price, Release Date
The price of the current model starts at $47,000. We expect the 2023 Ford Explorer Timberline will cost a little bit more, around $48,000. The sales will begin later in 2022, most likely in the third quarter of the year.
