2023 Ford Fusion Will Ride on the C2 Platform

After the 2019 Fusion was canceled last summer, this model will arrive as a global crossover. The 2023 Ford Fusion is coming to the markets in a new body style for sure.. We saw an early version few months ago, sporting fragmentary body parts. From leaked pictures, we got our first glimpse at the 2023 Fusion crossover last week, and now we have video of the first prototype in action.

This model will become available as the Ford Fusion Activ in North America, and Mondeo Activ in Europe and China, where it will replace the existing Mondeo sedan. In addition to the Ford Maverick, the new vehicle will be built on the Ford C2 chassis. Moreover, the same platform underpins models such as Ford Bronco Sport, Lincoln Corsair and Ford Escape. 2023 Fusion Spy Shots

These images show that the 2023 Ford Fusion will be more of a high-riding wagon than an actual crossover-SUV. The car looks like a sedan, but with a larger greenhouse and a rear hatchback that should allow for more luggage capacity than the previous sedan.

This prototype is extensively disguised, making features difficult to identify. But in the leaked pictures last week, the Fusion had a front grille that resembled the current Ford Edge model. The Fusion crossover seems to supplant the Edge, as it shares many of its features. Still, we are waiting for the camouflage to come off and see all of the cosmetic upgrades.

Interior Changes

Additionally, those prior images indicated an interior design that deviates significantly from what we see in the latest Ford vehicles. The prototype of the 2023 Ford Fusion had a huge screen that stretched the width of the dashboard, akin to Mercedes’ new MBUX display. Unfortunately, this is everything we know regarding the Fusion’s interior.

Of course, we expect to see a lot of new styling cues, borrowed from the Mustang Mach-E crossover and similar modern vehicles. As we said, Fusion will surely provide more cargo space than its predecessor. Lastly, we expect to see a lot of new driver-assistance aids and an impressive list of standard features.

Possible Powertrain Options and Specs

At this moment, the engine lineup is a complete mystery to us. The forthcoming 2023 Ford Fusion will surely borrow engine options from other brand’s models. As we said, this crossover will ride on the C2 architecture. According to many reliable sources, the Fusion will deploy a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

On top of that, this engine will be also available in the hybrid variant. Another likely outcome is the Escape’s 2.0-liter engine with 250 horsepower. Anyway, Fusion will arrive with impressive fuel efficiency, more than solid power and an optional AWD system.

2023 Ford Fusion Release Date, Price

The upcoming 2023 Ford Fusion will go on sale in the North America next year. On top of that, this model will go on sale in Europe and China as the „Mondeo Activ“ variant. The price is not available yet, but we expect for this model to start at around $30,000.
