The 2025 Ford Expedition remains the biggest SUV in the family since the Excursion is not coming back yet. We wrote about the return of the heavy-duty SUV, but the release is put on hold for now. Even the 2025 Expedition won’t introduce big changes. Minor updates around the body and inside the cabin are possible. Eventually, we might see a new trim level. According to some sources, Ford is testing Expedition Raptor.
Engineers are tuning a 3.5-liter V6 into three categories. Top models are getting 440 horsepower. A V8 is not coming back. If the 2025 Ford Expedition Raptor shows up, it won’t be a supercharged beast with 700 hp. The company is going to focus on off-road skills. Well, the Timberline edition is a good choice for adventures. Still, nothing beats Raptor.
The price will probably go up again. A few years ago, you could choose a full-size SUV for under $50,000. Nowadays, it is hard to find any under this mark. The upcoming Expedition will probably start at $55k.
2025 Ford Expedition Raptor Spy Photos
The F-150 truck was the only Raptor in the lineup for a long time. In the meantime, fans were bidding about other vehicles to get this package. And the rumors are louder since the arrival of the Bronco Raptor.
The test mule is reportedly seen, but there are no spy photos to confirm these theories. The current model with the most power is bursting 440 hp, which leaves one more push for the 2025 Ford Expedition Raptor. It will use the most potent version of a V6 unit with 450 hp and 510 lb-ft. Hybrid support is also possible. On the F-150 truck, the configuration is good for 430 hp and 570 lb-ft. The gas mileage is improved and the truck returns 23 mpg combined. The Expedition SUV might get similar fuel economy numbers as well.
Specs
Under the hood of the current Expedition is a 3.5-liter high-output V6 with a twin-turbo system. The base configuration produces 380 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Most high-end packages are delivering 400 hp and 480 lb-ft. For the new Timberline edition and the Performance package, engineers tuned a V6 to crack 440 hp and 510 pound-feet. A rear-wheel drive is standard and you can upgrade it to an AWD. The gas mileage suffers. Also, the towing capacity will drop a bit. We’ll see if the company is going to focus on this segment since the Expedition was the best hauler in the full-size class. Now, that is the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The new Expedition could be equipped with a package that can help it tow more than 10,000 pounds.
Packages and Options
Ford keeps it simple on the full-size three-row SUV. We’ll see again at least 6 trim levels. The base ones are the XL and XLT. There is a huge gap between these two and the next package. Limited model can be considered as a high-end edition with a $70,000 price tag. King Ranch offers plenty of upgrades, so buyers usually stay with it and opting out of the investment in Platinum trim. The 2025 Ford Expedition Timberline is a unique off-road version. An optional FX4 package is also available for some models to enhance their performances in tough terrains. The SUV is also available with a long wheelbase and extended cabin.
Highlights of the entry-level model are 18-inch wheels, foglights, keyless entry, and a 12-inch screen. Ford Co-Pilot360 package offers nice safety equipment. The XL is a two-row five-seater by default. You can add the third row, which is standard on the XLT. This upgrade also comes with extra climate zones and USB ports.
Timberline is equipped for tough weather and terrain conditions. A limited-slip differential and special suspension setup make the ride smoother. It is also the most powerful configuration with 440 hp.
Limited edition starts the premium offer with 20-inch wheels, leather seats and a panoramic roof. Bang&Olufsen install the sound system. The safety is also getting a boost thanks to parking sensors and adaptive cruise control. King Ranch adds 360-degree camera, but also premium leather, large infotainment screen and more speakers to the audio system. Still, the 2025 Ford Expedition Platinum is the king of the lineup with noise cancellation, wood interior trim, seats with massage, and roof rails.
2025 Ford Expedition Release Date
All the existing trims are coming back and the 2025 Ford Expedition is not bringing big overall changes. So, there is only one reason to wait – the Raptor package. The carmaker is still weighing options. The SUV won’t be launched before 2024. Depending on new options, we’ll see the Expedition sooner or later. Test mules are not on streets yet.
The price is expected to start from $55,000 and the XLT adds only $3,000. The next step will require $15,000 (Limited). King Ranch and Platinum are in the premium SUVs waters with the MSRP above $85,000.
