The 2025 Ford Lightning is the first electric truck by the Blue Oval company. It is the EV version of the F-150 model. Soon after this one, we’ll see another Lighting model, for the smaller Ranger. Eventually, the compact Maverick will join the lineup as well, while Ford doesn’t plan to electrify the Super Duty segment. It is even hard to imagine this happening. So, the original Lightning badge belongs to the F-150. Although the pre-orders started, the truck won’t be available until late 2024 as a 2025 YM.
This is a whole new era of trucking. Buyers are skeptical about the EVs in the segment, especially when it comes to towing. Ford is a leader in this world. However, Tesla is untouchable when it comes to the electric automotive world. Nevertheless, the combination of an electric powertrain and pickup truck segment is not easy to build. Cybertruck concept divided the public, but it is yet to enter massive production, like Model X and Model Y SUVs.
2025 Ford Lightning Range, Towing Capacity
Ford launched the new Raptor R with a massive 700 horsepower output. It can sprint 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. Quite impressive, but not as stunning as 3.3 seconds coming from the high-end version of the electric truck. Even the base model is pretty fast, hitting 60 mph from a stop in just 4 seconds.
There will be two configurations available for the 2025 Ford Lightning. The base one uses a motor that provides 450 hp and covers 230 miles before you need to recharge it. The Extended-Range pack increases outputs: 580 hp, 775 lb-ft of torque, the range is 320 miles and the towing capacity jumps from 7,700 lbs to 10,000 lbs. Of course, the price is significantly higher. Ford plans to add a high-output version, a king of an electric Raptor R. For the 2025 Ford Lightning, the company needs to speed up recharge times. The 10-80% quick top-up in 44 mins looks impressive, but compared to other companies, we believe it should be faster.
Competition
The electric truck world is a growing class. The 2025 Ford Lightning is a very important model since it comes from the sales leader. Ford’s trucks are dominating in all segments. But, when we speak of EVs, Tesla is the first company fans will mention. The Cybertruck arrived first, but it is a smaller pickup.
Ford’s main rivals in the half-ton class are also developing electric vehicles. Chevy Silverado EV and Ram REVOLUTION concepts look like ready for production. Toyota confirmed the Tacoma EV, while the Japanese company will work on the HD version of the large Tundra, rather than the electric model. Other rivals are startup projects by companies that don’t have a huge infrastructure and production capacities. Models such as Lordstown Endurance, Rivian R1T and Atlis XT can be sold to some of the big players, which will continue the development.
When Will the 2025 Ford Lightning Be Available?
The truck is on the Ford’s website and the company advertises it as a 2023 YM. But, only pre-orders can be made. The truckmaker delayed delivery once again. Nevertheless, we can expect it very soon. Some fans believe the truck is not coming out before the 2025 Ford Lightning.
Four trim levels are currently advertised. The Lightning Pro is the base version with a $50,000 price tag. The package includes 18-inch wheels, LED lamps, vinyl seats and floors, keyless entry, heated seats, large 12-inch screen, and a navigation system.
The XLT version is going to offer more premium materials, such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel. There are also power-adjustable driver’s buckets and pedals. Underseat storage is a pretty cool addition, although the truck also has the “frunk”. Front parking sensors and around-view cameras are added to the XLT model. It also unlocks optional upgrades.
The 2025 Ford Lightning Lariat makes it even more luxurious with leather seats with ventilation. LED lamps are in the bed. Premium Bang&Olufsen sound system and 15.5-inch screen are the highlights of the multimedia package. Optionally, you can add the A511 High bundle with Tow Tech, twin-panoramic sunroof.
Platinum is a top-notch version. Features include 22-inch wheels, massage seats and even more luxurious leather. Audio system bangs with 18 speakers. Max Trailer package is standard, as well as Home Charging system with Station Pro.
