The newest truck in the lineup is something that shook the automotive world. We can’t say that the compact pickup changed things, but it definitely drew attention and made other companies work on similar projects. The 2025 Ford Maverick won’t be changed a lot. The truck is available with a hybrid engine and superb fuel economy in the base form. A more potent configuration is available for high-end versions.
As a pioneer in the class, the Maverick has no too many rivals. It seems like Hyundai had similar plans, but the Korean company was a bit late with the launch of the Santa Cruz. The 2025 Ford Maverick will face tougher competition. Ram 1200 is already being tested and Toyota is working on the truck called Stout. Be sure that GM is also working on something, possibly a Chevy El Camino return.
2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid Truck
Under the hood of the 2025 Ford Maverick is a setup that combines a petrol engine with an electric battery. A 2.5-liter internal combustion drivetrain is the main source of power. Total output of the system is 191 horsepower. That is enough to tow up to 2,000 pounds. Not bad for a hybrid. The main strength of the compact hybrid pickup is in the gas mileage. The 2025 Ford Maverick will return over 40 mpg in the city. On the open road, en electric unit is not so helpful.
Performance Configuration
An alternative that increases both power and towing capacity is a turbo-four mill. A 2.0-liter engine is ready to crack 250 hp and 277 lb-ft. The gas mileage drops to 23/30 mpg, or even further with an AWD. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is replacing a CVT from a hybrid system. Towing capacity is 4,000 pounds if you take a turbo engine.
2025 Ford Maverick Competition
The new Maverick was interesting early during the development phases. At first, experts criticized the company and their efforts. The midsize segment has just recovered and Ford was experimenting with smaller models. Being a truck built on a unibody platform is the main reason to doubt. But, the Maverick rubbished all of them. The class that was so impossible to imagine is now getting more and more models.
Soon after the debut of this model, Hyundai launched Santa Cruz. We knew about it, but everyone expected a midsize truck. Well, the Korean company showed some innovations and they were a bit late to be first truckmaker that delivered a small pickup.
Besides Santa Cruz, the 2025 Ford Maverick will also face Toyota Stout and Ram 1200. The Japanese company already confirmed its truck. As an owner of the best midsize truck, expectations from Toyota’s new model are huge. FCA is also testing a pickup that will be under Jeep Gladiator. The first clues indicate it will be Ram 1200. Also, a Dodge Dakota comeback is possible. There are no hints from GM, but the Chevrolet lineup will also have a compact truck soon.
Changes, Grades, Colors
Small modifications are coming for the 2025 Maverick. The company will update other, bigger trucks. So, the carryover means the changes will be minor. For example, a color or two could be added, as well as the trim level. No, there won’t be a Raptor edition, but the 2025 Ford Maverick Tremor is very likely. For the small pickup, an off-road package is not a great deal. The truck will be used for local deliveries in urban areas. For all tough terrains, it will be better to use Ranger, or some other bigger model with a higher towing capacity.
It is very likely buyers will get more trim levels. The Maverick is currently only available in three grades – XL, XLT and Lariat. There are a lot of options the Blue Oval company can add only here. For example, a premium model, Limited or Platinum, would be welcome. We are not writing off the Tremor, although it doesn’t have too much sense. There will be buyers looking for a pickup smaller than Ranger and also capable for off-road adventures.
The base version offers only five colors. Do not be surprised if that stays so. Cactus Gray, Shadow Black, Oxford White and Atlas Blue Metallic are free options, while the Hot Pepper Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat costs $500. The mid-range XLT adds four more paints – Carbonized Gray Metallic, Terrain and Iconic Silver Metallic are free of charge, while the Azure Gray Metallic Tri-Coat is a premium color.
2025 Ford Maverick Prices
Everything starts off from the $23,400 MSRP. Hybrid engine costs $1,500 and AWD is a $2,200 option. Towing package is required if you want to get maximum capacity of 4,000 pounds. The Tremor package and all its features will cost $3,500-$4,000. AWD is standard here. Heavily loaded, the 2025 Ford Maverick will cost around $40k. More details about the upcoming truck will be available after the company confirms it. The sales are not starting in at least a year.
