Ford Motor Company will invest over $1.45 billion in its facility in Michigan. This investment will help the company in building autonomous vehicles. Moreover, Blue Oval carmaker will work on new electric models and larger vehicles such as SUVs and trucks. The new investment will create over 3,000 jobs in the next three years.
The focus will be on building a new Bronco SUV. Additionally, Ford will create a new Ranger midsize pickup truck and the F-150 pickup as well. The facility plans to work on new autonomous technology and purpose-built interior as well.
Expanding the SUVs and Trucks Lineup
A larger part of the investment will be spent on the brand-new Bronco SUV and Ranger pickup truck. Furthermore, one chunk of the budget will go on Ford’s plan of launching a new modification center. This center will support the plan of autonomous vehicles in 2021. The workers will start installing the self-driving technology in new models such as Bronco and Ranger. New Bronco will arrive in spring 2020. Later that year, Ranger will go on sale as well.
It will be the new-gen model which will announce the huge comeback of Ranger in the U.S. Just like other established automakers, Blue Oval company will introduce a dozen of electric models in the next couple of years. As you know, sedans are the past, and SUVs and crossovers are the future. For that reason, we can expect an all-electric powertrain in basically every model that rolls out.
Ford F-150 News
Blue Oval will also look to invest a significant amount of money in the production of the hybrid and battery-electric vehicles. Of course, we are talking about a new F-150 pickup truck, Ford’s best-selling model. The next step is the F-150 Hybrid and even the F-150 electric. The all-new model will be heavily upgraded and it will feature a hybrid powertrain.
Furthermore, Blue Oval said the battery-electric variant would go on sale soon after the hybrid version. Interestingly, over 50% of Ford’s overall sales are made by trucks, mostly thanks to the F-150 model. Moreover, this number is growing year after year.
Investments in Electric and Hybrid Models
This isn’t the last investment as Ford plans to invest over $11.5 billion in the near future. According to the Detroit-based manufacturer, the company will introduce 40 all-electric and hybrid models by 2022. This is a huge promise but Ford claims the aggressive investments are a must. Overall, Ford is definitely no. 1 producer of automobiles in the United States. It’s not like we are surprised, but 40 fully electric vehicles and hybrid models by 2022 is more than promising.
Demands for this type of vehicles are growing, and the competitors such as Tesla clearly wants to become the best manufacturer on the American soil. Finally, don’t forget about Lincoln and its models such as Corsair and Aviator. As for the Ford, besides Bronco, Ranger and F-150, you can expect huge announcements on Explorer and Escape models. It will be interesting to see Tesla Cybertruck against F-150 Electric in the near future. We don’t have to mention the battle of the electric crossovers and SUVs. The future is here.
