The fourth generation of the forthcoming 2020 Ford Escape will finally get a hybrid drivetrain and it will arrive with refreshing exterior and additional interior updates. Three engine choices, class-leading tow rating, and great comfort are available for an affordable price.
Escape is more than competent crossover SUV in a never stronger compact-SUV class. It will compete against rivals such as Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5,and Honda CR-V.This crossover will not only hit the U.S. markets, moreover, this model is famous in Europe under the name Ford Kuga. The last exterior revamp was back in 2013 and the new model will at least ride on a new platform. Of course, we expect design changes that will improve aerodynamic and athletic driving manners.
Exterior
After the latest spyshots, we found out more about the design and look of the all-new 2020 Ford Escape. The styling looks expressive and most likely, a new platform is in the line. Ford decides to ditch an existing C1 platform for the new global-platform that will find its place in all of the upcoming Ford’s models. That means more high-strength steel and more aluminum work, but why is this so important? Simply because the current C1 platform can’t accommodate a hybrid or plug-in drivetrain that will make a production next year.
The dimension of this crossover will stay intact, however, some minor changes will happen. First of all, a front trapezoidal grille adds more shades and the LED headlights will suffer a redesign. Side mirrors will get an upgrade, probably slight extending. New 18-inch wheels are included as well, and 19-inchers will be available as an option. The taillights are also LED and are also restyled. Blue Oval carmaker claims that the latest 2020 Escape will get three new exterior paints.
2020 Ford Escape Interior
First of all, the interior of an all-new 2020 Ford Escape feels and looks premium. It can accommodate up to five passengers across the two rows. The cabin now holds a much-better layout of the seats, controls, and buttons. Generally, the interior is more modern and more practical, but overall, everything will remain. A shift leveler is repositioned, just like the center stack. An infotainment system and multifunctional steering wheel are more user-friendly than on the previous model.
Front bucket seats are the same for a reason as the comfort is great. Armrests are slightly larger and the same thing happens to the console bin. The legroom is ample and rear seats are folding flat to improve the storage area to over 67.0 cubic feet. Speaking of high-tech amenities, the 2020 Escape will retain its existing features. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are a part of an optional equipment.
Engine Specs
As we already mentioned, the 2020 Ford Escape is likely to arrive with three engine options. That includes a two four-cylinders and hybrid drivetrains. An aging and anemic 2.5-liter is gone and the replacement is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost unit. It can produce up to 179hp and 177 lb-ft of twists. The optional drivetrain is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is rated at 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. The only gearbox that is in the offer is a Ford’s new 8-speed automatic.
Hybrid Option and Mileage
The 2020 Ford Escape will arrive with the hybrid powertrain. Moreover, a plug-in version is available as well. Both choices will use a 48-volt electric system with the belt-driven alternator. The overall efficiency is improved and of course, fuel economy numbers are better. With that in mind, Escape will become the only plug-in compact crossover in the U.S. The mileage will be over 100 mpg that is for sure, and the electric motor’s estimated range will also be astonishing. While there is no official information, Ford claims that upcoming figures will become one of the best ever. On top of that, according to rumors, the 2020 Escape could go up to 50 miles on the electric battery only.
Price and release date
The price of the approaching 2020 Ford Escape is exactly $25,000. SEL trim will cost around $30,000 while the premium Titanium trim is around $35,000. A plug-in hybrid will surely cost an additional $10,000 over the base price. New Escape crossover costs lower than the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V and is more expensive than the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage. Blue Oval automaker will release the new 2020 Ford Escape in the second half of 2019.
